Profile bio

About Gary Neitzke

I have been a group manager for the past several years and I love helping others grow both in the management space as well as individual contributor. I thrive off creating teams with amazing culture that lean in and help each other succeed without creating toxicity or negativity within the group. I have worked on everything from Client (Win32/x86 ASM), to Web Editors (HTML/CSS/TypeScript) and Services (Azure). I found my true passion in the mid-tier to back end services as well as service scalability and COGs. I love engineering both at work as well as at home. At home I prefer to tinker with Arduino, Raspberry PI's (python), 3d printing and everything in between. I am a constant learner always finding new projects and technologies to learn. I also love physical challenges and pushing myself both at work and in my personal life to see how much I can truly achieve.

Listed skills include C#, Software Development, Testing, Agile Methodologies, and 19 others.

Principal Group Engineering Manager

Current

Redmond, Washington, Us

Leader of the OneNote services from backend services, mid-tier storage, to our front end services. I am responsible for >40k cores in 18 different data centers around the world. In addition to running the services I have lead the team to improve its DRI culture, improve our incident response times, and create a customer centric view of impact and measurements. In addition to running services I also lead the team through the largest growth phase and in parallel lead an effort to reduce overall COGs for our partners and Azure. I have also built a strong management team with multiple principal level promotions. When I became GEM of the team health scores for the org were in the 70's and with a focused effort I raised these to >90. In addition we have built a culture of psychological safety, helping others within the team, and having a growth mindset approach to all problem solving.I also lead our university recruiting as well as help with all negotiations and industry hiring. In 2020 I created a pipeline to hire 18 engineers in a few weeks and this has been replicated by multiple teams with success. In addition I help on all offers and have created an equitable approach to compensation for building a sustainable engineering org.
