Consultancy and Support Systems to New and Old Businesses alike.Although my main skills still remain centred around Estimating and Quantity Surveying plus years of experience in contract and company management, in the past 10 years I have had a mixed bag of associations both with the very large and with the very small of our industry contractors. This gives me a very rounded appreciation of the work of many within our industry, but strangely, one discipline shines high above everything else when it comes to my time with the SME’s and that believe it or not is “Health and Safety”.Every one of the companies I have been associated with over the last 10 years have struggled to come to terms with the demands of health and safety admin and paperwork, being far more concerned with getting on site, getting the job done and eeking out a crust during these difficult times.During this time, a major part of my work has been spent in the preparation of Method Statements, Risk Assessments and the complete compilation of Health and Safety Files as required by CDM and this has included comprehensive records for COSHH, Toolbox Talks, Work Permits and the compilation of Phase Plans and O&M’s.To accompany the above, it had meant an involvement in the development of Training matrixes together with working with CITB to agree training plans and funding options.

Having successfully completed our move to our new base and showroom in Monkspath and having overseen completion of the new infrastructure including all administrative requirements and computer networks, its time to move on. New systems developed in training, health and safety, telephony and communications as well as improved accreditations in CHAS, Constructionline, Worksafe and Safe Contractor.

Quantity Surveying, Contracts Management and Client Liaison

Overall control of R and M division which at its height turned over in excess of £19million. Day to day running of the division including systems design, computer liaison and full reporting duties. Full management of staff compliment of 50+ and in excess of 60 direct operatives and full range of sub-contract trades. (some 150+ companies).

Co-ordination of Centre Activities and Events, organising Centre Events and representing the Centre on the West Midlands Regional Committee.

Responsible with my fellow committee members for the overall running of Branch activities together with the responsibility of serving as a trustee of the institute for 2 years.
