As Certified Advanced Facilitator, I help students learn a wide range of subjects in information technology and mathematics. These include 150 sections of over 30 courses, in mathematics, business systems analysis, databases, networking, and business application and management of information technology at the bachelor's and master's degree levels. Most classes have been online, though some have been in traditional classrooms. I also was the subject matter expert for course design of one of the networking courses and a graduate level database management course.As Campus Faculty Assessment Liaison for the Online Campus of the College of Information Systems and Technology, I have supported the measurement of success in meeting student learning objectives, and working with the faculty to make improvements in all aspects of the program based on the results.

I support the Retail Credit Services group in development of software to support credit risk evaluation and meet regulatory reporting requirements. This organization provides underlying services for many well known private label and co-brand credit cards for major retailers and oil companies.

Designed extensions of the Verizon Business configuration management system to support automated network activation, access convergence, fault management, and advanced Ethernet and DWDM services for over a half million circuits. Employed Sybase, Oracle, CORBA, SOAP and web services technologies in this architecture.As the lead for the network activation project, worked out approaches to scheduling both activation and deactivation so that practical business issues like customers disconnecting in error could be smoothly addressed. The design ensured that discrepancies between the network and the database recording its configurations would be resolved prior to making any changes that could disrupt service. The estimated return on investment to date has averaged about 100% a year, with almost 30,000 successful activations and deactivations each year.With access convergence, I was able to find ways to efficiently use the networks of different parts of Verizon to minimize duplicate network builds and associated waste of capital.In addressing advanced Ethernet and wave services, I helped ensure that the latest equipment was modeled correctly, and support was tested appropriately. I also worked closely with the team responsible for ensuring that installation, change and disconnect processes worked efficiently. This includes extensive involvement in the Verizon Rapid Delivery ordering architecture.I have been closely involved in analysis of configuration related data into business meaningful reports for executive management.

Analyst and designer for physical provisioning system for Converged Packet Access (CPA) and Metro Private Line Ethernet (MPLE) projects at MCI. This system uses web services to provide for coordination of local and long distance Ethernet services.Analyst and designer for UNE-L and TCOMS automation projects at MCI, working with four programmers using SOAP over HTTP binding, WSDL, XSD, XML, Java Servlets, JNI (for underlying C++ libraries) and Web Services (using Websphere) to provide automated provisioning of local circuits. Responsible for planning for fault avoidance and fault tolerance in this process, to eliminate human intervention. Estimated software development effort and created project plan using MS Project.Participated in the design of a circuit data warehouse, combining information from local and long distance systems with information from other carriers. Took part in both logical and physical design, including recommendations for the use of DB2 Multi-Dimensional Clustering to improve performance.

Designer and project manager for a database providing real time transformation of configuration data into a form suited to the high speed query needs of fault management systems. This included derivation of the transitive closure of network relationships, so that recursive tracing of the relationships could be avoided during network problems.Prepared requirements for automatic network fault management systems for IBM, to be used as a starting point for requirements for customer specific applications of their Netview/TMN and related products.Reverse engineered a configuration management system of over 800,000 lines of code using UML Rational Rose tool, and OOA/OODDeveloped and taught a series of courses covering the telephone network, network management, alarm correlation and TMN for internal and external use.Involved in major proposal writing efforts for technical proposals. In this role, I was the lead architect of the proposed network management architecture, addressing a mixed SDH/ATM network to be managed using CMIP and SNMP in a highly secure environment.Led competitive product analysis and TMN RFI development and response analysis for TCSI’s product marketing group.Responsible for Chicago area office of ICTT, including regional marketing of consulting services. Designed the first Tuxedo interface in WorldCom’s management systems.Designed CORBA interface for voice switch command (recent change/translations) system at WorldCom, and an application to extract the order information from an Oracle database for this application.Designed database replication, automatic recovery, serialization of updates, and load balancing using Oracle. This system allowed for automatic switchover from the primary database copy to a secondary copy so that updates could continue even if the primary system failed.Worked with a major truck manufacturer on design of systems to manage their engineering data.

Used C and Oracle/SQL to develop software for distribution of medical reports by email and fax in a $1.5M Regional Health Information Network. This system collected data across the hospital using HL7.Planned testing for a VA distributed system collecting admission, discharge, treatment and diagnosis data from VA hospitals for centralized analysis.Developed the Oracle physical database design for a Department of Energy system for automated collection of employee health data, using ERwin. This system included over 100 tables.Developed 300 web pages for corporate intranet, and introduced key concepts of intranets to the company. Set up the company’s first search engine, using WAIS.Defined requirements for the LAN and WAN of Motorola AIEG. Selected network management and communications products. Recommended network changes that reduced collisions by a factor of 5.

Manager of a core design group responsible for software requirements and design for half the company’s product line.Analyzed and designed a reporting and data manipulation tool so powerful that development time using it was over 30 times more rapid than its predecessor, while the time required to implement the tool itself was far shorter.Improved performance of circuit rerouting from 6 hours to under 1 second. This involved both substantial database tuning (in Oracle), and application restructuring.Designer for a wide range of management systems used by WorldCom, Verizon, BellSouth, and many other companies Analyzed and designed “intelligent” root cause analysis system for rapidly and automatically determining the source of network problems.Designed messaging architecture and approach for interprocess and intersystem communications.Designed management systems for SONET, T1, DS3, Voice switch and other networks Developed a Pro*C based program to automatically record network changes made by external users in Oracle.Designed a system that could accept E-R models and automatically create Oracle databases, while enforcing complex constraints. Major telephone companies used this system for a wide range of applications. Developed plans for extension of this system to enforce temporal database constraints. This would have, for example, enforced rules that allowed relationships to exist only at the times at which all of the entities involved also existed.Designed extensions to this system to handle automatic conversions of data from old models to new models, without requiring the applications to go down at any time during the conversion.

Developed requirements and design for software to manage drug test data, using E/R modeling and structured analysis. This system was designed to collect data for statistical analysis in support of applications to the FDA for approval of animal health drugs.Used COCOMO for project estimation, and structured analysis and design

Responsible for analysis and design of banking software for credit card slip processing.Aided in the development of new software development process, designed to reduce development and maintenance costs and reduce defects.

Designed databases for NASA projects, including UARS Central Data Handling Facility, Space Telescope Data Archive and Distribution System, Compton Gamma Ray Observatory Data Capture Facility.Wrote studies of trends in data management for the Goddard Space Flight Center Science Directorate, suggesting the use of distributed data, information retrieval, and other technologies.Led several database management system selection projects for NASA, including comparisons of 66 products. Evaluated proposals for DBMS products for the Orbit/Attitude databases.Automated conversion and unit testing of user interface software. I was able to reduce a project release scheduled for 12 staff months to 3 staff days of effort (including development of the automation software).
