I am currently directing all development at Carnegie Speech, a company that is making products to help assess and train people's speaking skills. The training system uses a speech recognizer to listen to the user’s speech. The speech recognizer has been optimized so it can detect whether the subject correctly made a specific English sound (think of the "th" in think as a sound) correctly. With this detailed analysis of the subject’s speech, the product creates an individualized curriculum that addresses the student’s particular problems. This curriculum improves the student’s speech in about 10-20 hours of use. Our market includes the call centers in non-English speaking countries like India and Mexico, and all those Teaching Assistants that you had who could read your test answers, but you couldn't understand when you went to them for explanations. In addition we serve the large number of non-English speakers in the US.Part of my responsibility is to work on proposals for Carnegie Speech. The proposals I have worked on have brought over $6 million worth of projects into Carnegie Speech. In the most recent past, I helped create Algebra Tutors to help teach students High School Algebra. We installed these tutors in hundreds of high schools around the country. Before that I spent some time at CMU working on proceptive memory. Proceptive memory is the memory of future events, like how you can remember to take your pills tomorrow morning. My work involved a software agent imagining the future situation and taking the pill. Since taking the pill involved real world interaction, the planning created the proceptive memories. In the farther past, I led the development of Neural Network software, helped developed Robotic software, and at Bell Labs made our Phone system a little better. The robots were particularly cool, just because seeing large pieces of metal move around in the way I told it to was fairly satisfying.Specialties: project management, proposal writing, product management, System architect, C programming, PHP programming, Lisp Programming, Android phone application design and programming
Listed skills include Product Management, Speech Recognition, Software Development, Software Design, and 23 others.
