Leading product cost evaluation work for engineering changes and proposed new vehicles. Continuation of previous position after department was moved from Finance to report under Product Engineering. Conducted extensive search and interview process to hire 24 cost engineers to rebuild the department after recovery from the financial crisis.

A variety of value analysis assignments as the department mission evolved. Presentations to Sr VP level on cost vs performance of competitor products determined through tear down and reverse engineering. For our own BIW & Chassis BOMs, provided detail cost estimates, development of cost tables, and linear regression analysis of piece costs. Calculations of piece cost and tooling to support engineering changes, and evaluate cost of initial compliment of tools. Managed up to fifteen SBU, management, and contract professionals.

Traveled to manufacturing plants and trained selected employees and managers in lean manufacturing concepts. Ushered cross functional assignees in to cohesive teams to solve chronic manufacturing problems that had been prioritized for resolution.

Supervisory, then Area Manager level responsibility for 20 to 120 employees including supervisors. Implemented predictive maintenance techniques including thermography, vibration analysis, & tribology to nearly eliminate unscheduled down time. Maintained high quality levels through process control disciplines.

Traveled to all corporate assembly plants to investigate non-conformance claims made against stamping plants. Authorize charge backs for validated claims. This was a staff position interfacing with plant management and quality departments on both sides. Credited with transforming a historically adversarial position to an effective liason role.

Concieved and then founded company with aid of two investors/active professionals. PMC provided dimensional certification services to numerous companies in the machine and tooling industries for aerospace and automotive applications. Trained employees traveled with digital theodolites, LASER interferometers, or manual measurement tools to client facilities and provided high precision measurements for certification and/or adjustments. My primary role was to determine industry needs, find and acquire appropriate technology solutions, develop standard operating procedures, and then train employees to provide ongoing service to clients.

Assigned to lead a crossfunctional group of employees to create tools and execute the pilot build of body shells for a then new compact SUV. The unique challenge was that AMC did not have established facilities or procedures for prototype or pilot build programs so I guided my team to facilitate bays, fabricate fixtures, establish work flow methods, and coordinate design revisions.

Experience included large machining to support industrial equipment repairs, tool making, and build and maintenance of precision molds and high speed prog dies. In addition to learning all conventional chip cutting machines I was also proficient in ram EDM and the then new traveling wire EDM machining. Frequently worked to tolerances of 0.0002". Magnum Tools entered me in the NTMA apprentice skill competition where I placed 2nd in the Toledo Chapter.
