Gary Reece received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Clinical Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena in 1978. Since that time he has worked in a number of clinical settings as a psychotherapist for both adults and adolescents in outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings. He also taught at the university level for 3 years at Azusa Pacific University. For 15 years he had experience with a broad range of individuals, functioning as a therapist for groups, individuals, and families. While he was practicing, he had numerous opportunities to work with individuals with traumatic losses. He consulted with The Bob Hope Airport, and numerous hospitals, schools, and civic agencies in the area of Emergency Response. He also has experienced trauma when he and his wife experienced the loss of a 6 month old child due to SIDS. That was a transforming experience which moved him to spend the next 10 years lecturing, consulting, doing critical incident debriefings, and workshops in the field of trauma. This culminated in his writing Trauma Loss and Bereavement, a survivor’s handbook. He writes of these experiences in a Blog: The Heroes Journey www.garyreece.blogspot.com. For the past 12 years he has worked with an FFA dealing with children who have been placed in foster and adoptive homes. He has during this time brought his experience and knowledge of trauma to understanding of the effects of trauma on children whose lives have been affected by placement in the foster care system.His passions are classic cars, cycling, exercise, bonsai, foreign films, reading, and writing. He has two adult children and two amazing grandchildren.
