Gary Sampson is John Gough Professor in the Practice of International Trade at Melbourne Business School. After completing his Doctor of Philosophy, he was awarded a post-doctoral research grant by Cambridge University. He was subsequently appointed Senior Lecturer in Economics at Monash University. He then moved to Geneva where he worked in various Divisions of the United Nations. From 1984-86, he was Reserve Bank Professorial Fellow at the Centre of Policy Studies at Monash University and held various advisory positions with the Australian Industries Commission and the Economic Policy Advisory Committee in the Office of the Prime Minister. He was appointed Director at the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in Geneva (GATT) in 1986, and in 1995, Director at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). He is the most highly placed Australian to have worked at both GATT and the WTO. He teaches on a regular basis in TRIUM, the combined Executive MBA of Stern School of Business in New York, London School of Economics, and HEC School of Management in Paris as well as in the Executive and Senior Executive MBA programs at MBS.He has published widely in both the academic and more popular press.
