Lihir Island - Papua New Guinea

The Lihir operation on Lihir Island in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG), is 100 per cent owned and operated by Lihir Gold Limited (LGL). Newcrest acquired the Lihir operation as a result of the merger with LGL by court-approved scheme of arrangement in August 2010. • Reports to the Commercial Manager, and responsible for setting the supply and logistics framework, and aligning with short and long term operations model to enhance outputs and efficiency of mining services.• Lead change management initiatives to resolve risk relating to stock Management, in which the Lihir site had no effective stocks takes for in excess of 10 years. Cleared all previous issues, and set up regular stock take processes to ensure eradicate future risk in stock inventory controls.• Directly accountable for procurement budget of $1.2 million dollar per calendar month.• Focus on continuous improvement efforts to increase efficiency of warehouse operations, and reduce costs.• Successfully optimised inventory reduction programme from USD$213M to current USD$143M level.• Ensure that all goods coming to and/or leaving the site are controlled through the Supply and Logistics department, and that a full paper trail (audit) exists throughout the process.• Actively promoted and championed the safety management achieving 5 years LTI days free within Supply Dept.• Contract owner of 2 freight forwarding companies for Lihir Mine operations (one in Brisbane Australia and the other in Lae PNG), taking ownership for service, contract negotiations and relationships. Worked with PNG Customs to ensure goods entering the country were cleared in a timely manner. • Manage a team of 168 Supply personnel including 7 x expatriates from Australia in areas of Purchasing, Inventory, Logistics, Warehousing and Port Service.

Cadia Valley Operations (CVO) is Australia’s largest gold mining operations and is 100 per cent owned by Newcrest. CVO comprises three mines - the Cadia Hill open pit mine, and the Cadia East and Ridgeway underground mines.• Directed the materials, warehousing, inventory and logistics model that supports all 3 mine sites that fall across CVO; whilst governing compliance against Newcrest’s Supply and Logistics Policy and Procedures. • Project managed the setting up of a Distribution Centre in Orange NSW, and fully revised SOPs around warehousing, storage and inventory to achieve greater efficiency. Managed over $4Mil worth of Capital Expenditure works to achieve best in class supply chain infrastructure.• Managed and coordinated all warehousing requirements for the three mine sites in a 24/7 operations including a warehouse inventory that consists of 82,000 line items valued in excess of $83 million.• Served as Supply & Logistics specialist to the wider Newcrest group, troubleshooting issues for both national and offshore supply (outside of existing remit). BOC own and operate a number of Gas & Gear stores across the country; these supply both retail and commercial customer operations. As a Manager, this position is responsible for revenue, service and supply commitments.• Led and managed a team of retail sales assistants to exceed sales, service, inventory and profit targets; whilst proactively growing market share across all product groups.• Project managed a major renovation of the store and site within a two month period ($1.5Mil), whilst coordinating renovation to ensure minimum disruption in service and supply.• Took full ownership of budgets with a strong focus on revenue growth coupled with cost control, with report back to the Retail Manager and Head Office Management. This position reported directly to the Logistics Manager and was based at Wetherill Park NSW• Oversaw and administered a busy supply schedule to support major contracts and services across the NSW region, with a focus on maximising distribution efficiency and costs.• Managed the scheduling for a number of mission critical contracts including deliveries to Bathurst Races and the supply to NSW Hospitals. For the NSW Hospitals contract, successfully achieved "zero time out of gas. and served on call (24 Hours) for all Emergency deliveries.• Utilised SAP for reporting, and maintained the Visit Scheduling and Pay by Schedule.• Visited key customers with Area Managers to set up agreements ($100k+ spend), and worked in collaboration with Sales, Production and Distribution Teams to drive contract SLAs.
