Gary is Senior Partner in the Wilmington, North Carolina firm of Shipman & Wright, LLP (www.shipmanlaw.com) , where he specializes in complex litigation, business organization and reorganization, asset management, and lender liability. He is a 1977 graduate of UNC-Wilmington and a 1980 graduate of Campbell University School of Law, where he was named their Most Outstanding trial advocacy student. He is a Board Certified Civil Trial/Pre-Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. A frequent lecturer for various continuing education organizations, he is a member of the American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the North Carolina Association for Justice. Since 2005, he has been recognized as one of “The Best Lawyers in America” (Class Actions; Mass Torts; Professional Negligence; Products Liability; Personal Injury; Lawyer of the Year - 2021, 2022, 2023), and one of North Carolina’s “Super Lawyers”. Gary is the recipient of the State of North Carolina's highest civilian honor, "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine", granted by the State of North Carolina to individuals who have shown extraordinary service to the state.Gary is also a registered sports agent and is certified by the NFL Players Association and the National Basketball Players Association, and active in the representation of professional lacrosse players. Gary is the principal managing member of S&W Sports Agency, a full service sports/entertainment agency representing professional athletes, college and professional coaches, collegiate athletic administrators, actors, entertainers, directors and producers.Gary is active in numerous community organizations, including Supper Optimist Club, where he has coached and sponsored youth baseball/softball teams for more than twenty (20) years. Gary is married to his wife, Mary Jo, who is a product developer. Gary and Mary Jo have three (3) children – Brandon (Connor), Khale (Jazmine) and Bryce, and four grandchildren (Porter; Callan; Easton and Mia)
