Possessing over 17 years practical experience in the ecological consultancy and nature conservation sectors.Practical skills are firmly underpinned by academic experience, providing a broad based knowledge of the scientific and regulatory aspects of environmental science as well as a detailed understanding of both terrestrial and aquatic ecological systems. To date I have worked on a wide variety of different projects including on and offshore renewables, residential, commercial, transportation, industrial and civil engineering. Particular expertise in onshore renewables, with involvement in over two dozen wind farms to date. Includes collision risk assessment, mitigation design, critical evaluation of ESs, project management, management and provision of ECoW services and client interfacing.Specialist skills include terrestrial mammal, aquatic invertebrate and ornithological surveying, with considerable experience in surveying otter, water and field vole, mink, badger and a range of bird species particularly waders. I have particular knowledge of mitigation design, habitat creation and restoration for birds and terrestrial mammals, and am experienced in the provision of specialist advice in this regard to both public and private sector clients. In this regard I have experience of providing specialist ecological advice and representation at public inquiry level for public sector clients. I also have a thorough working knowledge of UK and EU nature conservation legislation, guidance and policy, as well as recognized survey techniques and methodologies.In the last few years I have gained considerable experience of working within the defense estate environment through contracts with Defense Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). In this regard I have gained a working knowledge of the standards of security required when working within sensitive sites, and have acted as ecology lead on projects at several Ministry of Defense facilities throughout the UK.
