Managing editor of a digital and print news operation in metro Atlanta’s fast growing Cherokee County. Responsible for strategy and execution for tribuneledgernews.com, two print newspapers and a print community magazine, along with supporting social media platforms. Our newsroom produces a quality, comprehensive news report daily and leads the market in breaking news from our coverage area.

I worked with clients in all areas of commercial real estate to clearly communicate their stories to everyone they needed to reach. Secured coverage in regional and national news and trade press, including client-bylined thought leadership pieces. Handled client crisis communications. The Wilbert Group is a growing firm with national reach, serving clients in varied sectors, and with a deep expertise in commercial real estate.

Worked independently and with others to develop and execute communications plans tailored to internal client objectives, while measuring their effectiveness. Clientele included C-suite executives, government relations teams, the company's philanthropic foundations, and other divisions of a 6,000-employee statewide health insurer. Built strong relationships and became a trusted advisor to clients. Helped develop and implement an award-winning internal communications program to teach all employees the basics of the Affordable Care Act's Federally Facilitated Marketplace. Used intranet articles, videos, quizzes, lunch-and-learn sessions and more in the project, in which 96 percent of employees passed an end-of-campaign exam. Served as primary media spokesperson for the 2013 launch of the ACA Marketplace.

I was responsible for operations of a weekly community newspaper in Northwest Georgia. My job included managing all internal operations, as well as external relations. When I arrived, the newspaper had posted losses for several consecutive months. In response over the short term, I cut expenses. For the long term, I arranged training for the advertising director and brought in new advertising programs. These moves combined to bring the newspaper quickly back to profitability. Another part of my role included community involvement through membership in the Rotary Club of Chatsworth-Murray County (2009-2010 president), the Murray County economic development steering committee and Murray County Red Cross board. I also founded the newspaper's annual holiday charity fundraising drive.

I worked as a journalist for the global news wire service, reporting on agriculture, state government, entertainment, federal courts and breaking news. I also worked rotating supervisory shifts for both print and broadcast wires.

I was responsible for news coverage of a seven-county area for The Macon Telegraph, a central Georgia metro newspaper. I reported a wide range of breaking news, feature and enterprise stories.

I was a general assignment and investigative reporter, often assigned to complex, high-profile breaking news stories that would require ongoing coverage for months or years. Among these was: the ouster of a University of Tennessee president; a federal investigation of illegal kickbacks at a large public hospital system; and, a criminal case in which a local crematorium operator was charged with discarding more than 300 bodies. I also served for a period as deputy metro editor, before choosing to return to reporting.

I was the editor who led daily newsroom operations for this small daily newspaper. When I first arrived, the job entailed managing a staff of 22 producing daily reports, weekly feature sections and specialty content inserts. After the newspaper was sold, I had to reduce staff to 15 -- which I did through attrition rather than layoffs -- while doing my best to maintain the same quality of work. Prior to and during my tenure, The Daily Citizen had attained a reputation as one of the state's top publications, winning more than 30 top awards from the Georgia Press Association and The Associated Press during my time there.

Responsible at The Times-News for hiring, training and managing a staff of seven reporters, who provided comprehensive news coverage for Burlington and Alamance County, N.C. Later transferred to The News Herald in Panama CIty, Fla. where I oversaw production of weekly and monthly feature sections, along with specialty content projects.

This was an assignment editor/page designer combo, first at the Times-Georgian in Carrollton and then at the News-Sentinel in Douglasville. Both were small dailies, though the News Sentinel had a slightly bigger staff and was located in metro Atlanta. I managed the reporting staffs and designed the main news sections, along with some specialty publications.

This is where I learned source development and deadline writing skills. I covered business, city and county governments, and a horrific murder case. During my busiest week there, I wrote 33 stories in six days.

This was my first job. I started as sports editor, doing all the planning, reporting, writing, photography and page design for two sports sections per week. Later, I shifted to covering business during the period Forsyth County was beginning its transition from a rural farming economy into a high-growth part of metro Atlanta.
