I started as a part-time employee while at University. Fully trained in all departments throughout the business I was offered the opportunity to become a crew trainer, coaching the new starters and current staff of procedures. I run areas such as the kitchen directing staff and keeping production flowing.

Originally a part-time Christmas job, I was kept on and given a part-time contract. Hired to help put deliveries away, they brought me in extra days and taught me to unload deliveries and deal with paperwork as well as learning the systems. I had the highest put away count of any of the Christmas staff and was trusted as a temp to run areas and deal with problems such as breakages. Left due to promotion at my other position.

Part-Time position while I was studying. I was given the opportunity after 13 months to take a supervisor role and run shifts. Directing staff and giving them jobs and dealing with customer complaints and queries. Calling customers who had late movies and who’s accounts were in arrears to negotiate returns and payment. I was given my own set of keys and would cash up tills, input takings and submit to head office, Setup the banking and the float for the next day and lock the takings in the safe. Setting the alarm and locking the store for the night.

Taking phone calls and directing them if needed. Welcoming Clients into the building. I would Search the web and call suppliers to get best pricing on components and equipment. Salesmen would give me targets and I would and get them down to maximise profits. Booking in deliveries and stock counting. I was later given the task of dealing with faulty items by booking them in on the in-house system and reporting them to the correct department. Using phone and e-mail to communicate with people. They also taught me to build PC’s. I would regularly read up on new products and shifts in the market to keep knowledgeable on new products on the market.

This was a weekend job while working full-time at ISL Computers ltd. I started my time glass collecting but was moved to learning the bars within a few months. It was a fast-paced position serving customers and dealing with cash. Within the year I was the team leader on some of the bars, sorting out problems, keeping stocked up and cashing the tills when we were no longer serving.

I trained in all departments of the store before moving to Beers, wines and spirits (BWS). BWS was a higher responsibility as I was responsible for high value products and security checks and counts were needed. I was very vigilant when keeping an eye on stock and security from theft.
