West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service looks after a population of approximately 762,000 covering an area of 383 square kilometres that includes several large urban areas such as Crawley, Horsham and Worthing, with one major motorway and numerous trunk roads. With over 100 special risks including Gatwick Airport, the second busiest airport in the UK.Responsibilities involved:To respond to direct requests for safety information, attend special events or leaflet drops both at your normal workplace and out in the community; • To participate at community events organised by the organisation or community groups• To deliver safety education/messages to target groups in the community• To help educate members of the community in the risks and hazards of fire • To assist in service initiatives, programmes and strategies to reduce fire calls and support the delivery of national and regional community safety campaigns and organisational aims and objectives• To assist learning and promote understanding of safety matters through demonstration of fire safety, first-aid fire fighting, calling Emergency Services and fire survival methods• To assist the organisation in raising the role and profile of the Fire Service in the community• To facilitate events in both formal and informal activities with the local community• To assist in the design, delivery and evaluation of community safety campaigns to the communityKey achievements included:• Project manager for “Adopt a school” providing education and awareness to individuals from the ages of five to eleven.• Events coordinator for socially deprived areas, specifically responsible for enhancing fire safety awareness in the community. Resulting in a reduction in unwanted and hoax calls of approximately 10% as a result of project and events campaign.• Responded to “Category A” ambulance emergencies as part of a co responding unit.• Successfully Completed Emergency Medical Technician First Person on Scene (FPOS) training
