Created in 2012 this division was the combination of the old Wholesale and Corporate banking division. Combined turnover of £5bn pa and a self-funded balance sheet of around £120bn of loans and deposits, covering lending, transaction banking, capital and financial markets with any LBG customers with a turnover of over £1m. I was responsible for the budgeting, planning and strategic planning process for the Commercial Banking division. I was responsible for the liaison with senior stakeholders in Group and the Commercial Banking business to ensure top down understanding of the CB Strategy and Financial Plan. The Structured Finance Division (SF) was a debt and leasing book with around £30bn of assets, housed in complex legal and tax structures to maximise returns and optimise pricing competitiveness. Its activities included large and middle ticket leasing and asset backed finance, Project Finance and Acquisition finance. As a member of the Excom my role was to provide tactical and strategic guidance to the business as well as providing MI,financial insight and analysis to the key stakeholders around the bank. I was also responsible for managing the middle office for the Secondary Loans trading book and warehoused debt facilities. I was actively involved in managing down the size of the portfolio (c£12bn disposals), modelling the impacts of the proposed transactions on the profitability of the business and the associated capital impacts of the trades for presentation at Group Committees.I was also heavily involved in the strategic restructure of the division working with McKinsey to examine the profitability of key core segments of the division through optimised capital usage and maximising the earning potentialI helped develop the financial and product control teams responsible for all LIBOR products in Commercial Banking, using SF as pilot to develop the processes, reporting and assisting in defining the parameters and responsibilities of the team.
