Dr. Tompa is the founder and principle owner of Structured Materials Industries, Inc. (SMI -www.smicvd.com) with more than 35 years of experiences in material deposition equipment including MOCVD. SMI has over 300 high value customers in more than 10 countries around the Northern Hemisphere - including Japan, China,Israel, India, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Russia, and Canada, among others. SMI has helped incubate and/or secure funds for several other companies. Dr. Tompa has led securing and completion of over 150 US government contracts. He has led SMI in its profitable unencumbered debt-free operation since 1992 and SMI is currently a world leader in customized MOCVD and deposition tools. He is a former Director of Systems and Technology at the Turbo Disc division of EMCORE (pre-Veeco) MOCVD, one of the largest MOCVD maker in the world. Dr. Tompa is also a concurrent entrepreneur, having help found several businesses and raised over $50 million dollars in equity free financing. He is also a co-founder of NEI Corporation (www.NEICorporation.com) and currently serves as the Chairman of NEI’s Board of Directors. Dr. Tompa was a co-founder of United Nanotech Products Limited, a multi-million dollar private venture funded start-up to produce battery electrode materials in India.He was also a co-founder of Aventa, which was venture funded by AMAT and Varian and ultimately sold to Singulus. He has also participate in three other startups with positive exits.. Dr. Tompa obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology with a M.S and A BSci with minors in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics with High Honors and Thesis - he has over 150 pier reviewed publications and an equivalent number of conference presentations, has contributed a book chapter, and has multiple patents. He is a lifetime member of Tau Beta Pi and a member of other organizations. He is also a Garden State (NJ) Fellow.Experienced company President with a demonstrated history of working in the semiconductors industry.
