Responsible for financial management and administration of the strategic Roll-On Roll-Off vessel PFI contract, worth £1Bn (£50M per annum), the approach he introduced will save more than £30M in contract fees. His first assignment saw him serve with the Staff Band of the Royal Marines School of Music, Deal (RMSM) until its closure in 1996 when Gary moved to Dartmouth in Devon and served nine years with the Band of HM Royal Marines Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC), followed by a further four years with the Band of HM Royal Marines Plymouth, based at HMS Raleigh. During his time in the RMBS he embarked on HMS INVINCIBLE, RFA ARGUS and HMS ALBION in addition to serving on Op Fresco (the fire service union strike) in 2002/3 and in Basrah, Iraq in 2007
