About Gary Wool

Exceptional seismic data processor that understands the underlying geophysics instead of only knowing what buttons to push. A wide variety of 2D and 3D experience including gulf coast, unconventional, land, shallow water and deep water marine, transition zone (ocean bottom cable/node) and multi-component data. A strong understanding and practical application of signal processing for various seismic problems: noise attenuation; surface and interbed demultiple for shallow/deep water and onshore environments; all sorts of wavelet shaping and deconvolution approaches; FX, FK and tau-p transform and filter techniques; interpolation; surface consistent algorithms and their application. Extensive experience in refraction statics and tomography throughout may regions and depositional environments including the Gulf Coast, Overthrusts, unconventional fracture, mud volcanoes, gas chimneys, etc. High level knowledge of time and depth migration algorithms, including Kirchhoff, beam, RTM, WEM, Stolt, phase-shift, and the differences between ray based verses wave equation based methods. FWI.

Listed skills include Geophysics, Geophysical Data Processing, Oil And Gas, Oilfield, and 17 others.

Additionally, I perform QC and have oversight of external processing projects. I handle onshore and offshore conventional and unconventional work.

Area Geophysicist/Principal Area Geohysicist

Houston, Texas Area

Department: Data Processing/GeoSolutionsI typically maintain the technical oversight of the geophysical integrity of 4 to 8 seismic processing projects. This is done through data QC, workflow QC, the approval of tests, abundant hands-on testing, data analysis, etc.I interface with clients and act as a bridge between them and the general WesternGeco processing community to meet their specific geophysical challenges.I interact with the different R&E areas to fully implement new algorithms and processes and facilitate the roll out of new software by doing the initial hands-on testing and overseeing its distribution into the general population. As an internally recognized Omega 2 (WesternGeco’s seismic processing software) expert, I often build innovative flows from scratch or modify existing workflows to optimize their geophysical performance or their overall efficiency. In November 2018 I was honored to me made a Principal In Schlumberger's SETC Program siting my many contributions to the company over my career.

Department: Software Support SpecialistsProvided worldwide on-site customer support of seismic application software including the Omega™ Seismic Processing System. This involved extensive traveling both domestically and abroad to wherever the software was sold. Typically, these trips would range from 1 to 4 months, and usually as a independent reference, with very little "team" support.Performed geophysical quality and usage testing of all seismic software. Offered an interface between users, research staff and programmers to enhance its usability and effectiveness. Supplied independent commentary on "best practice" procedures.
