I’ve worked in marketing for over fourteen years, but I still consider myself a student of business and marketing.I’ve been fortunate over the years to experience many of the different sides of marketing, and it’s the variety that engages my passion every day.Over the years, my views on marketing have changed and evolved - and they will continue to do so. At this stage, there are several fallback principles and big takeaways for how I view marketing. • The foundation of all marketing is understanding your customer. • Based on the insights from your customer, marketing becomes the crafting and delivery of a compelling message.• Channels come and go, and industries rise and fall, but educating the market about how their situation can be changed because of your products/services is universal marketing. • Effective educational messages begin and end with the customer and are honest, authentic, and clear. • Metrics are essential - but are not an end goal in themselves. Metrics should guide and inform intuition and decisions, not make them. • The common language between sales and marketing is simple; new revenue. • There’s always a new hypothesis to test.Now, if you’ve read this far in my bio, congratulations! You’re probably an SDR trying to sell me something (no shame, but good luck). Or maybe a curious colleague or recruiter? Either way, it would be foolish of me to write this all out without giving the LinkedIn search algorithm some actual marketing keywords to scan in my profile. So here we go.I have been involved in the planning and execution of SEO, PPC, SEM, PR, ABM, DM, SMM, B2C, and B2B campaigns. (How do you like them acronyms?) I’m the jack-of-all-trades that thinks on his feet, runs in the sand (I may have made that one up), and learns on the go.I love data dashboards and am a HubSpot CRM aficionado. Demand Generation is the way of the future, and Demand Capture is a necessary cog in the wheel. I love content marketing (that’s really just marketing), and copywriting in general (though I still have a lot to learn). I’ve led, trained, and managed teams and find that to be one of the most enjoyable parts of my job.In short, marketing is awesome, and everyone should get into it - it’s good for business.
