Gary has extensive experience in high technology businesses, especially in the start-up phase, either as advisor, financier or hands-on executive. Gary’s past experience includes roles as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Directorship roles in a diverse range of organisations from small engineering outfits to large public corporations across a number of sectors, including technology, telecommunications and energy. In these roles, Gary’s responsibilities included business turnaround, strategic and technology direction, mass manufacturing, product delivery and implementation. He was responsible for the financial management of a $1 billion public housing authority and established a number of software and mobile phone technology companies to pioneer software and products in the high tech sector. These included the award winning rapid 4GL software company Ochre Corporation, which initiated an innovative new style of RAD development tool and database optimisation suite. He also co-founded the high technology software company, Bullant, which developed a very high performance virtual machine transaction engine and distributed computing architecture. Bullant was backed by a range of venture capital investors including Chase, Gilbert Global, First Data Corporation and Intel. More recently, he co-founded and funded the 3D vision start-up, Visionary Machines, and led its early evolution into a ground breaking optical radar system. He now manages investments through his private investment vehicle, and participates as the initiator of the Encircle Australia project.He holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in mathematics and computer science, a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics from the University of Sydney and a Master Town and Country Planning (Public Economics) from the University of Sydney. He also holds a Masters of Science, Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he also taught mathematics for a period.
