Railroad Dispatcher
CurrentServes as a Railroad Dispatcher in the Chicago Division, responsible for managing safe and efficient train operations ensuring on time freight train delivery while safely prioritizing all passenger trains. Communicates daily with Maintenance of Way to provide well planned and thought-out windows of opportunity to safely perform any maintenance duties. Complies with all rules and regulations within the Train Dispatcher/Control Operator Manual and General Code of Operating Rules to complete tasks and perform daily duties. Interprets railroad jargon within the TDCOM, GCOR, ABTH, USHMI, and MWOR (all are DOT regulated) to provide guidance to field employees, counterparts, and management to ensure safe operating practices. Communicates with various departments in emergency situations by ensuring our company’s mission and values to prioritize the safety of our employees and the public. Coordinated with outside Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies as required. Responded directly or through others to Safety Emergencies as required, to include 24 hours per day, seven days per week, when on-call. Prepared and maintain all legal documentation related to track maintenance, weather warnings/emergencies, accidents/incidents that result in injury, and incidents that are the result of safety or operating mishaps. Assisted in the development of BNSF’s Dispatcher Training Course and testing of all upcoming BNSF new hire train dispatchers. Analyzed Federal, State, and FRA regulations pertaining to Safety and Health, and developed and prepared programs and procedures that ensure company compliance and employee safety regulations. Prepared, scheduled, and conducted Federal Railway Administration (FRA) required safety training as directed.
