About Gary Morgan
Mr. Morgan has consulted for a number of independent companies and is currently consulting for Trucking Fleet Solution companies and for several small companies and startups. Previously he consulted for the Innovate Washington Foundation to help small enterprises, high tech companies grow into successful ventures. Mr. Morgan retired from Battelle’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in June 2011 as the Director of Public-Private Partnerships forming partnerships with commercial companies to accelerate the rapid deployment of laboratory innovations into the private sector. Prior to that, Mr. Morgan was the manager of commercialization for the National Security Directorate and managed an IP portfolio of 1200 patents as well as led four start-up spin-outs to commercialize capabilities from PNNL. Mr. Morgan also served as deputy on the Cyber Security LDRD project with Deborah Frincke for three years. He also served as the loaned executive (CEO) for a startup company in Richland WA while employed at Battelle. During the last six years at PNNL, Mr. Morgan led a successful laboratory wide initiative to infuse Agile processes into the Science Process, which resulted in over 100 trained Scrum Masters and many successful Agile projects.Prior to joining Battelle in 1991, Mr. Morgan spent over 20 years in private industry, managing product innovation, and development as well as new product introduction into the marketplace. He was founder/co-founder of three successful start-up companies. Mr. Morgan holds a BSEE from Washington State University an MSEE from Columbia University as well as studying Computer Information Architectures in the Columbia Ph.D. (ABD) program as part of the Bell Laboratories Graduate Study Program. He has five patents in his name, has published numerous papers, and appears in Who’s Who in Computing and Who’s Who in America. Mr. Morgan completed training and coaching experience with Agile PM and holds CSM and CSPO Certifications.

The results four years later are over 40 staff trained in Scrum and numerous projects benefitting from using the principles of Scrum. Mr Morgan is a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), as well as a Certified Product Owner (CPO) and experienced Scum Coach. By 2006 his IP portfolio included over 1200 invention reports and numerous notable license deployments including: o 40 inventions in the field of RF tags (RFID) constituted the core technology for then startup and now publicly traded Alien Technology in Morgan Hill, CA.o Seminal portfolio of millimeter wave imaging science part of the foundation of Safeview which was acquired after 3 years by L3 Communications in 2004. This is the third largest windfall transaction for Battelle stimulated a second wave of research funding to PNNL for Standoff Detectiono Half dozen pieces of visual analytics technologies collectively called Starlight to a start-up company named Future Point Systems. o Other technologies in electronics, nano science, bio technology, information technologies, acoustics, etc.

In 1995 while employed at PNNL, Mr. Morgan was asked to help found a company based in Richland, WA which had patented through transmission acoustic imaging technology and needed help with market focus, financing and product development. Mr. Morgan served as the CEO from inception until 1998 when the company successfully raised venture investment and recruited a seasoned Medical Imaging executive. During Mr. Morgan’s tenure as acting CEO, the company successfully developed several prototype breast imaging machines using holographic ultrasound technology and managed clinical trials through FDA approval. In 1999 the company was financed to commence manufacturing and in 2007 won the Frost & Sullivan Ultrasound Innovation Award.

As the co-founder of a Development Stage Enterprise (Technology Development Associates, Inc.), from 1983 to 1989, Mr. Morgan was responsible for the development and successful deployment of several product innovations into the wireless device marketplace. These included the first hand held electronic air pressure gauges, for which he set-up manufacturing in Europe and marketing through Sharper Image; and the world’s first wireless LAN, including the patenting of the routing algorithms, and the design and manufacturing of the hardware and software NIC card for the Novell OS. After the worldwide introduction at Comdex in 1987 we sold the product rights to NCR.
