Responsible for the delivery of our Health and Care services, helping people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. Leading our staff and volunteers across the area, in line with our fundamental principles and the organisation’s values. Responsible for the development of our strategic area plan which complements our wider UK Operations and Organisational Strategy 2030. Engaging a wide range of external stakeholders across the region, including health, social care, local authorities and the voluntary sector, developing partnerships and programmes of work focussed on reducing health inequalities. Lead for UK wide health projects on learning and development, digital inclusion and regulated services. Responsible for our CQC regulated service in England, including personal care and end of life patients. Participate in organisation mentoring programme, supporting career and personal development of our staff. Up until 2024, I was also responsible for our crisis response team across the region, supporting incidents from fire and flood to larger scale humanitarian displacement.

Responsibility for the emergency operations and patient transport control services together with community response (over 600 staff and 600 volunteers) across the East of England. Responsibility for training and audit functions. Included oversight of the tactical operations centre, with incident management and critical care deployment. Operated as a strategic commander with multi-agency decision making and regular engagement with wider health system leaders, flexing to tactical and operational level as part of specialist roles.

Providing leadership to teams within the Ambulance Emergency Operations Centres - responsible for key service delivery areas encompassing call handling, dispatch of ambulance resources, clinical triage (“hear and treat”) and tactical operations. Ensuring robust business continuity and governance arrangements were in place. Operated as a tactical commander for a range of incident types.

Head of Performance for Emergency Operations, including responsibility for programmes and projects, for example new performance standards for Ambulance Services. Included development of business cases, managing programme budgets and establishing governance and risk management.

Responsibility for the leadership and delivery of a range of complex and innovative projects. Engagement with a variety of stakeholders and development of benefits realisation, risk identification/management, together with formal programme evaluation.

Secondment to a senior project manager role, responsible to the Strategic Health Authority with joint accountability to the Met Office. Successful leadership and delivery of an innovative project with widespread stakeholder engagement.

Management and coordination of a large number of projects, including the role of Programme Manager for the Emergency Services Collaborative. Engagement with a wide range of clinicians and managers with use of service improvement techniques.

Commenced working in the Patient Transport Service in 1994, progressing through Ambulance Technician and Paramedic training. Broad range of experience including clinical, scheduling, operational management roles. Secondment in 2001 responsible jointly to the Directors of Nursing (George Eliot Hospital) and Ambulance Service Director of Operations achieving the successful delivery of a project related to paramedic/nurse education, including a published article in February 2002 entitled ‘A New Way Forward for Paramedic Education’ (Ambulance UK, Volume 17, No. 1).
