My tiny all-volunteer team and I are developing a Big Data/Semantic Web web application using Linked Data / RDF technologies. It is being built with tools such as Drupal, Marmotta, and Solid. Some of our tools are based on work by Tim Berners-Lee's group in the CSAIL lab at MIT. We are an open source shop.For resume purposes, I built the original and most of the present website at http://thespaceplan.com, building a large and complex Drupal installation, and managing a team of volunteers and interns to add content and expand the system to support an interface to the Marmotta Linked Data Platform.First and foremost, we want to provide a way for everyone to enjoy easy access and powerful visualizations of the whole Space Development process, from the technology to the business and economics. For instance, what do we need in order to create a Moon habitat? What will it cost me to do a Cubesat experiment and get it launched? Where are space technologies making a difference on Earth?This online research and visualization tool will be used by all parties involved in development or research regarding humans in outer space, including Moon and Mars habitats, microgravity and extreme vacuum research and industrial applications and biological research and proof of habitability.We are working with NGOs, industry, and government agencies to build a comprehensive compilation of the tasks, technologies and methods required to establish permanent human habitation in space and on other bodies in the Solar System.Integrated Space Analytics was founded for two purposes: to provide reliable analytical data and research tools for investors in "New Space" startups, and to produce a new version of the Integrated Space Plan poster that was originally developed by space professionals in 1989, as a tool to coordinate the activities of companies and agencies such as NASA. The new online system will be a live interactive tool for public inspiration and education as well.

I am a partner at Space Finance Group. SFG's mission is to provide financial and management services to emerging and established companies involved in or supplying to space development and commercial space activities. SFG recently completed a successful Kickstarter project for National Space Society. We have provided business plan evaluation and management consulting services for several space-related startup companies. We are presently rewriting a client's business plan in preparation for a major capital raise, and are negotiating to provide the business plan and an entrepreneurial business structure for a proposed satellite operations spinoff from a major aerospace company.We are also developing an exciting new funding approach to jumpstart space development investment and allow non-accredited individuals to participate in the New Space capital market.

While I am still affiliated with Bright Plaza and doing some work for them, it is on an occasional basis.Bright Plaza is involved in two markets: online security and privacy (authentication and authorization using the Kaje SAAS, http://ka.je), and secure data-at-rest, via the Drive Trust Alliance (http://drivetrust.com).Kaje specializes in Proof of Knowledge tools, essential to adequate security on the web and other locations. Its first product provides Picture Password capability for website logins, similar in function to the Windows 8 Picture Password. See http://picturepassword.info to try it out. This service is provided to ISPs free to offer to their hosting customers, who can then provide picture passwords as a more secure, easier to remember alternative to text passwords while still allowing text passwords. I will be working with ISPs and large organizations to add this to their suite of hosting tools, and developing the organization.Kaje's work on Proofs of Knowledge includes tools to allow identification or confirmation of capability, such as assuring that an individual is presently capable of performing important financial transactions, is not impaired, and is not under duress. I am delighted to be working again with a long time associate, Dr. Robert Thibadeau of Carnegie Mellon, inventor of self-encrypting hard drives, Chief Scientist at Wave Systems, and the holder of seminal pending patents relating to picture passwords and proof of knowledge systems.

Advanced web-based data mining and information extraction (ETF) projects in the financial and accounting areas, collecting data on publicly held companies and producing linear data sets regarding company interactions with SEC, PCAOB and other regulatory bodies; custom projects for clients in the accounting and auditing fields, including user-entry systems for combining database-generated data regarding accounting clients with user entered data, then converting received response data files to XML format for submission to government agencies. Present projects include natural language processing and named entity recognition on reporting data and creation of a single-signon system based on SAML.

Wrote several back-end applications to convert old accounting, customer and lead databases and integrate the data into the new single system, using a variety of heuristic filter methods to correct and match data among the various data sources to generate a single reliable database. Developed prototype for advanced search algorithm and database schema using Bayesian expectation analysis.

Responsible for both systems administration and much of the programming for "Connect Schlumberger" extranet system after its initial development; developing and maintaining a range of advanced internet-related software and services for oilfield engineering clients of Schlumberger Ltd. This often required coordination across multiple divisions within the company, and liaison with clients and their support personnel. Developed tunnelling method to allow clients to access information held in internal database, without opening firewall. Developed prototype satellite-linked truck information application with web-based GIS and Qualcomm OmniTracs (tm) mobile communication system. Built new corporate web server farm (http://www.slb.com/), coordinating the needs of all divisions at technical, VP and C-level. Responsible for needs analysis, specification, design, acquisition, construction and rollout, and assisting many of the over-100 independent websites to migrate to the new server. Based in Sugar Land, TX.

I started FXT.com to develop and market the "EtherFax" (TM) network fax server, allowing large organizations to consolidate all fax communications into a single box, with up to 96 fax lines and sophisticated user and telephone usage management. Our next product was "MailQuery"(TM), integrating full text concept based semantic search into the NeXTstep Mail application, allowing fast retrieval of rich-content mail and associated documents using approximate search terms and concept similarity.From almost the earliest days of the World Wide Web, FXT.com has been providing a range of consulting services, including construction of several small ISPs and sophisticated web backend systems. Examples include the first bookstore on the Web (to my knowledge - year was 1994), the first newspaper in Oregon on the web, a web-based graphic logo generation system, and numerous content management systems and MySQL/PHP based systems.

Managed Control Systems team, including liaison with scientists at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute; wrote successful SBIR Phase II grant proposal for "Intelligent Generalized Robot Controller". Managed design & construction of prototype robotics controller for Westinghouse Nuclear's six-axis nuclear plant maintenance robot, including sophisticated power and thermal management systems in difficult nuclear-certified environments. Trained newly hired software personnel, managed experienced professional engineering consultants.

Managed development and rollout of "PaperSight" (TM) networked document management system for the NeXT computer. The product included high speed scanning and OCR and entity recognition, plus a sophisticated system for working with documents in digital form, with work flow, annotation, revision control and access control.

I worked in the "Visual Understanding Lab" of the Robotics Institute, under Dr. Robert Thibadeau. My functions included liaison with corporate research sponsors and partners, and assisting in planning, coordination and execution of research projects, including an optical systems design workstation, porting a photometrically correct ray tracer to the Cray, and others.

Co-founded the company and managed all development, IT and support. Invented and developed first successful commercial large-format scanning and entity recognition system - convert maps and engineering drawings to CAD data & build 3D models. Built first 911 emergency map display system ("GIS") for Fairfax County VA, with address conversion and live navigation across multiple-image data set. Company was founded on my idea for combining then-new CCD camera technology with the high-bandwidth input capability of the Perq workstation. The company eventually went public and was listed as an emerging company on the American Stock Exchange.
