An open invitation for HPC usersBe one of the first high-performance computing researchers, to beta test a new Linux based software, named “DSMP”. This software promises to level the cost and accessibility playing field for all academics that require increasing amounts of computing power and the even larger shared memory capabilities for handling expanding computational data. It has the potential, over the next few years, to become an alternative to MPI clusters and eliminate complicated application development. We would like to invite you to participate in the testing and validation of our in-house findings. We need real world application users to test the limitations of our software on a three node, 48 core, 384 GB shared memory system. Testing will be run remotely over Internet 2 bandwidth on the UMass campus. With your permission, your results will be used in a case study and/or white paper. The software, called “DSMP” promises to take traditional commodity off-the-shelf hardware and provide an SMP environment. The advantages are obvious; significantly lower cost than current SMP offerings, easy application development or porting, less need to be a to computer scientist in addition to an advanced researcher, and the ability to build and scale a system capable of handling both MPI and SMP tasks. The cost-to-computational power estimate is approximately 80% less than what is currently available.
