Rotherham College of Arts & Technology is the main provider of further education in the Rotherham area. My position in the School of Engineering and Construction was to initially manage the schools new Electronics & Computer Aided Design computer centre. This involved the day to day running of the centre, supporting staff and students on various applications especially the Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD software on the Windows 95 platform as well as liasing with our technical support unit on improvements to the centre. I have also developed the School of Engineering & Construction’s Intranet Site.As the centre became more self sufficient the role developed more towards writing training materials and training both full time and part time students in AutoCAD 2D and 3D on AutoCAD release 14 and AutoCAD 2000.I became an Autodesk authorised trainer for AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop 3 in July 1999.

As a Project Engineer within the Production Department I was tasked with replacing the current UNIX based MIS with a more flexible and user friendly Windows based MIS, as well as being involved with day-to-day contracts. The Windows application chose for the MIS was Microsoft Access I was also responsible for keeping the UNIX and PC systems running, this involved recommending courses of action and carrying out those decisions. I was also utilised as a help desk by other members of staff when they came across a problem, especially in Microsoft applications.

As a Quality Engineer in the Quality Department I was responsible for the adherence of the quality records to BS 5750 Part 2. These records included supplier approvals, raw and cast material analyses, calibration certificates and defect analysis. I was also responsible for the visual inspection of both completed and in-process castings for defects and dimensional tolerances, along with the completion of the batch cards as the castings progressed along the production line.
