Local Hospice Lottery began life in 1996 as Farleigh Hospice’s own lottery – a way of generating a regular and reliable income to help fund the care of people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses across mid Essex. After eleven years of running the weekly draw, the decision was made to develop the Lottery for the benefit of hospice care in other areas across Great Britain. Today, Local Hospice Lottery operates a society lottery that benefits numerous individual hospices, from the Highlands of Scotland to the South Coast of England and to the Valleys of Wales. Through sharing one prize fund, one lottery system and one experienced and knowledgeable team – lots of expenditure can be saved and our partner hospices can enjoy a low risk, low input way of increasing their income. Our model of operation is based around partner hospices receiving more income from every £1 spent by players entering the draw in support of them, than they would if they ran their own lottery. We have raised over £40 million for hospice care to date and our ever increasing annual contribution to hospice care is significant and has been widely recognised by external bodies. This includes the Lotteries Council, who named Local Hospice Lottery as ‘Lottery Operator of the Year’ in April 2018 and the Commission into the Future of Hospice Care which described us as “A shining example of hospice collaboration.” We were also a finalist for the 2017 Third Sector ‘Enterprise’ Award, a finalist in the 2017 Scottish Institute of Fundraising Awards in the ‘Best Individual Giving Campaign’ category, and were shortlisted for a 2017 and 2020 Institute of Fundraising Award in the ‘Most Committed Company to the Sector’ Category. Leading Local Hospice Lottery during a period of growth and establishing long term strategy and direction.

Member of the board of Local Hospice Lottery and senior manager at Farleigh Hospice responsible for day to day operation of the charity's trading subsidiary.

Responsible for the charity's voluntary income generation, including fundraising, direct marketing, legacy promotion, a retail operation and a seperate lottery company. Also taking the lead on the charity's PR, marketing and brand development.

Leading an 'Introduction to Fundraising' 6 day training course each year along with a number of 1 day courses on grant seeking and application writing.

Elected Director of Help the Hospices for a four year term when the charity became a membership organisation in 2007. The role was voluntary and focused on the governance of the charity.

Responsible for major donors, lottery and statutory funding, capital fundraising and for trusts and foundations.

I held 4 different posts at NCH, from a regional fundraising from grantmaking bodies when I started in 1991 and finishing up as being responsible for a team of trust fundraisers and the charity's business lunch and corporate market research programme
