I love people, and I believe in “The Power of People. Connected.” Our ability to connect has evolved dramatically over the last several decades. From rotary phones on our walls and mainframe computers tucked away in large rooms, we now have the power of those mainframes, and more, in the palm of our hands. Compute power and the ability to connect have been fused into a singular device that has left the wall and goes with us anywhere. That fusion is rapidly moving beyond the phone to devices on our wrists and googles over our eyes that literally let us “see” technology and connection in new ways. I was at Apple in the early days and have had a front-row seat to this revolution. At the center of all of this technological change, however, one thing remains constant. People. I have spoken about these connections on TEDx stages around the world, and as President of the Executive Council, I help manifest connections and conversations in curated physical, and on-line, settings, allowing executives to establish high quality relationships and strengthen those relationships over time. Creating powerful networks of people around common causes can unleash great change.A particular cause that is close to my heart is cancer, specifically metastatic breast cancer (MBC). On 10.21.2014, MBC led to my wife of 25 years, Maureen’s, last breath. Our love story turned me into an unexpected author, as I share in more detail in the section of my profile titled, The Love of My Life. That love story has manifested itself in many ways for our “kids” and me. I share our many activities to improve the lives of people through Team Powdered Donut. One of those activities that is truly meaningful for me is my role as the Board Chair of the Side-Out Foundation, a non-profit focused on the very MBC that leads to the death of 44,000 women (and some men), like Maureen each year. Love, people, and a belief in the power of technology to make things better are at my core. This is my why. The how can be found throughout my profile.
