I have over 50 years of experience in the solid waste and recycling field. Specialties: I've worked on more Zero Waste community plans than any other individual in the United States. I also work on developing and managing RFPs for solid waste and recycling systems for communities and universities, developing incentive programs for garbage rates and recycling contracts, and developing Resource Recovery Parks. I served on my Town Council in Loomis, CA, and was Mayor in 2010.I was President of the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council and helped develop the GBCI TRUE Zero Waste Rating System (TRUE.gbci.org) and the GBCI TRUE Advisor training program. These are all services offered by the U.S. Green Building Council.I helped write Zero Waste Plans for: Palo Alto, Oakland, City of Los Angeles, Burbank, Glendale, Alameda, Del Norte County, Oceanside, and San Jose in CA; Boston, MA; Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Fort Collins, Broomfield, and the Towns of Telluride and Mountain Village, CO; Austin, TX; Delaware County, PA; the big island of Hawai'i; Nelson, British Columbia; Arkadelphia, AR; Atlanta, GA; California State University, Long Beach, California State University, Los Angeles and Boston University. I am on the Board of Directors for the Zero Waste International Alliance and chair the ZWIA Zero Waste Certifications Committee. I am on the Sierra Club National Zero Waste Team. In 2005, Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives certified me as a ZERI Systems Designer and I was recognized as CRRA Recycler of the Year. In 2017 I was certified as a Practitioner of Zero Waste Principles & Practices by the Solid Waste Association of North America and the CA Resource Recovery Association. I am also certified as a TRUE Advisor.I was a founder and past President of the National Recycling Coalition, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from NRC in 2018 and am now a Lifetime Honorary Board member of the NRC. I was Solid Waste Manager for the City of San Jose, CA. In San Jose, I developed their recycling programs into national models. I have a Master of Public Administration degree from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (environmental major) from Tufts University.
