Gary is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and an internationally recognized expert in the design of cultural, performing arts, and education centers. Over the course of a lauded career, Gary has helped breathe renewed purpose into such iconic buildings as the Boston Opera House, New York’s Webster Hall, and the Mies van der Rohe-designed MLK Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC. As a Senior Principal and Studio Director, Gary directs the execution of award-winning landmarks, leading stakeholders and fellow professionals as he unlocks the power of cultural venues to heal urban neighborhoods and advance economic strategies. A natural consensus-builder, Gary has successfully guided a wide range of clients through the fundraising and community engagement process and historic tax credit applications. Gary is also noted for his longtime advocacy of design strategies that reduce each project’s environmental footprint while translating to long-term reductions in operating costs. A sought-after speaker at industry conferences, Gary’s work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, and other national and regional outlets. He has lectured at the University of Maryland School of Architecture and has served as a juror for the Interschool Design Competition, organized by the American Institute of Architects and the National Building Museum.
