I have been in the building products industry since 1983. In the mid 80's I was hired by Bird Inc. to test market and evaluate for introduction, the "Decra Bond" Stone Coated Steel Tile Roofing System manufactured by Alex Harvey Inc. of New Zealand. I've been an independent roof coatings distributor, I've owned and operated a roofing & home improvement co. More recently I've been in the insurance restoration business, covering from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. I've developed products for two roofing related niche markets: 1. A radiant barrier, fully shaded / fully ventilated roof system and 2. A non-destructive asphalt shingle roof hail damage repair technique. I'm currently working on a mounting system that will enable lightweight, flexible thin film PV Solar modules with laminate backings ( as used today on commercial flat roofs ) to be applied to the rough, irregular surface of an asphalt shingle roof, without detaching and blowing off in the wind. Combine that with the recent introduction of micro-inverters and as best I can tell, this is the closest to Plug & Play PV Solar as has been achieved to date. For those that aren't familiar with Plug & Play PV Solar, I have a recent Forbes article you can link to at the home page, bottom left corner of our website that describes it fairly well. The DOE - SunShot Solar Initiative just awarded over $ 20 Million last February to two organizations to find and build a prototype Plug & Play PV Solar Array. We believe we are almost there.
