Maintenance of various custom development tools for diagnostics, form editing, data mapping, and tracking for the H&R Block tax preparation software. File server data was transmitted to headquarters. File links were adjusted to the new location within the software tool packages.

Responsible for customer facing installation packages, internal development and build tools used by software engineers, and product release management tools used by QA and the release manager. Helped out in 2 significant migration efforts: first, 1 million lines of tax calculation code were converted from Visual Basic 6 to Visual Basic.NET. Second, we rewrote our main TaxWorks UI application using Silverlight 5. (It was also in Visual Basic 6.)I was also responsible for managing other in-house team members as well as the tax software competitor conversions team for one year during this time.

Responsible for TaxWorks, other tax products (private label) and in-house development tools. Also managed a small team of software engineers who supported me in these efforts. Implemented a Scrum development methodology which helped our team formalize our development efforts against strict timelines and also helped us prioritize the most important tasks for our customers.

During this time I was the team leader responsible for the Windows desktop portion of TaxWorks. This software served thousands of US Tax Professionals and was responsible for filing millions of tax returns. I lead a small team of system developers.From 1998 to 2000, I was integrally involved in rewriting the application from the ground up, moving our code-base from QuickBasic to Visual Basic 6. This was a huge undertaking, a major 2-year process, with high risks, but it ultimately turned out to be a great blessing.Also during this time I was responsible for development tools used by the Tax Development team. These tools would allow them to create input forms, diagnostics, and other essential tax resources used within the software. Another set of tools I helped to develop integrated with source control and allowed developers to build and deploy the software to QA and later to production.
