Profile bio

About Gary Payne

I offer a wide range of photographic skills and experiences. Based in San Diego, CA. (my home town), I have worked for over the last thirty years primarily in the editorial field--spending five of those years in Latin America (Mexico and Argentina). I have worked for a wide variety of national and international publications. I have an active local and regional freelance clientele, as well as a long standing association with the international photo agency Getty Images (originally with Gamma Liaison). I also specialize in arts performance, architectural (exterior/interior), food, hotel/hospitality, portraiture, travel, and unit photography. I also offer some video and graphic design services to select clients.I have years of experience on non-profit boards. I am the current board president on the professional period orchestra/chorus Bach Collegium San Diego (www.bachcollegiumsd.org), former board member of Early Music America (www.earlymusicamerica.org), and former board president of the Museum of Photographic Arts (www.MOPA.org).I recently went back to school for a masters degree in Homeland Security at San Diego State University. With a long time interest in security and international matters I enjoyed a deep dive into these critical issues, and had the opportunity of a fascinating internship at the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana working on security and political issues of that region. The Master's program also gave me a spring board into several safety and security organizations locally, including as a volunteer to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), InfraGard, the FBI Citizen's Academy, and the American Red Cross as a pro bono photographer. Aside from time with my lovely wife, and three nearly grown children, Gary is an instructor in the martial art of aikido, an amateur musician (mandolin and violin), and a motorsports enthusiast. Partial client list:Editorial: San Diego Magazine, San Diego Home/Garden, Sunset Magazine, New York Times, Newsweek, BusinessWeek, San Diego Union/Tribune, America Economia (Chile), Forbes, HealthLeaders, etc.Commercial: Port of San Diego, San Diego Symphony, University of San Diego, Discovery Channel, American Red Cross, San Diego State University, Bach Collegium San Diego, San Diego Ballet, Opera NEO, Hilton Hotel, Ramada Ltd., Hanalei Hotel, Silver Cloud Inn, Holiday Inn.
