About Gary Pinkley

Automobiles are my passion, both professionally and in my hobbies. I have been working with automobiles since I learned to drive. I attended college as a mechanical engineer with the goal in mind to go to work in the automotive industryOver the past 25 years I have worked for General Motors, Sachs Automotive, Hotchkis Performance, Rancho Suspension, Tesla Motors, Polaris Industries and currently at Rivian Automotive. All of which have given me broad based experience in engineering, work environments and organizations. At my most recent past experience as Staff Engineer role at Polaris, my primary focus was on engineering for transmission systems. I was the lead engineer for one of our projects which includes such tasks as performance modeling, stress analysis, clutches, gears, shafts, casting design, park system, hydraulics and lubrication components. As the lead I worked with vehicle teams on architecture and packaging of our project. I also worked with the safety group on DFMEA and HARA analysis to ensure function and safety of the product.I spent 7 year of my time in the automotive aftermarket designing and developing high performance suspension products used by automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Many of the products I designed can be found on project vehicles in the many pages of magazines like Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, Etc. Prior to Polaris, I was in a long term position with Tesla Motors working in engineering the motor and gearbox for their electric propulsion systems doing broad based work such as die casting, plastics, stress analysis and packaging. As a hobby, I extensively modify cars to further the performance and styling including several ground- up resto-modded muscle cars. I have been involved (off and on) with amateur autocrossing in the SCCA and have a passion for high performance driving.

Listed skills include Automotive, Solidworks, Product Development, Catia, and 30 others.
