Leading the Laudio engineering organization, consisting of 50+ engineers and contractors across product, platform, security, data, cloud, systems, implementation, and support engineering teams.

As a leader in the Software Engineering organization, I partnered with other Product, Design, and Engineering leaders to help establish and optimize our processes and practices for a team of ~300 engineers during a period of rapid growth. I also provided guidance and advice to other Engineering leaders and managers.Key responsibilities included contributing to the roadmap planning process (OKRs), driving operational improvements within the Engineering department, and also leading key strategic initiatives for the company.Project focuses included: auditing and establishing a shared baseline for the software development lifecycle, using Jira and Confluence to document key processes and improve productivity, leading the engineering team through a variety of successful compliance certifications (SOC 2, SOC 3, ISO 9001, ISO 27001), rolling out tooling (Jira, LinearB, Rollbar, DataDog, etc.), and more.

* Led 10x growth of the engineering organization from 20 to over 200 engineers. * Led globally distributed groups of 100+ engineers across multiple teams, timezones, and managers. * Built and led full-stack product development teams responsible for insurance product quoting, inventory catalogs, client implementation, customer/employer support, recommendation engine logic, integrations, identity, and enrollments. * Built and led Software Architecture, DevOps, Site Reliability (SRE), and Platform Engineering teams from scratch.Collaborative business partner with other senior leaders and teams, identifying areas where technology can provide key advantages and partnering to create effective relationships across departments. Led weekly all-hands and management meetings.Led significant modernization efforts and projects including:* Migration of all bare metal environments and applications to the public cloud. Scaled an engineering team from 5 to ~25 engineers, and then restructured into 3 separate teams. Identified, coached, and mentored new managers.Achievements included:* Built a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, innovation, and autonomy.* Breakout of Recommendation Engine logic into a stand-alone micro-service, and then integrating it with multiple WTW applications.* Built REST APIs and migrated legacy code.* Supporting system-wide functionality for rehired employees, leaves of absence, and court-ordered coverage of dependents.* Cross-benefit year enrollment processes for new hires, rehires, and life events.* Enhancements to privacy controls in order to safeguard sensitive data.* Built developer tooling to streamline local development environment set-up as well as other redundant tasks.* Optimized legacy code for determining employee's eligibility resulting in a 100x performance improvement.

Developed full-stack features for the Bright Choices and Benefits Access applications. Projects included:* Developed initial functionality to support money accounts (HSAs and FSAs).* Hierarchical nesting and configuration inheritance for "sub-organizations" of parent organizations.* Auto-enrollment processes that would auto-populate employee benefit and insurance selections if they did not finalize their elections prior to their enrollment deadline.* Improved SQL Server database performance by tuning indexes and queries, and adjusting configuration settings.

Developed custom B2B and B2C software applications in the healthcare, web portal, and home service markets. Worked directly with clients, mentored junior developers, and revised internal developer code processes. Provided database administration for internal needs and external clients.

Joined as software engineer #2 during early seed stage. Designed and developed the first version of the PhishMe phishing simulation SaaS application. Created interactive information security educational content. Directly supported customers with creating custom phishing testing campaigns. Integrated Salesforce with the core SaaS application.

Developed and supported the campus web portal (MyUB), student/faculty/staff center (HUB), emergency alerts (UB Alert), campus identity management, and network monitoring systems.

Developed custom B2B and B2C software applications in the e-commerce, inventory management, legal, order management, healthcare, and financial markets. Provided database administration for internal needs and external clients. Trained and onboarded new developers during growth of the company.
