I have over 25 years experience in software development working in a variety of environments and utilising varied software life cycle processes. From this I have a thorough understanding of what makes good software and am often responsible for the proposal & introduction of improvements; taking the initiative to implement process & environmental changes or developing new tools to aid development & verification.I have good organisational & documentation skills which have resulted in my being assigned responsibility for numerous projects throughout my career.I am used to working in a high pressure agile environment, balancing time & resources between competing tasks such as new development, customer support & project administration.I have always been, and remain, a keen coder, enjoying both the challenge of a problem and the satisfaction of a good solution. Frequently, throughout my career, I have found myself being assigned an area of problematic functionality to “make it work”, reviewing & refactoring as necessary. Similarly, I often fulfil the role of 'the database guy' on projects. In more recent years I have taken on more team and project lead roles and, whilst I am happy performing these roles, have purposely remained involved in actual software development.I am well versed in working on large multi-process, multi-threaded software projects and addressing the eternal balance of swift, efficient storage of large amounts of data versus the responsive retrieval & analysis of that same data.
