Growing up, I assisted my father with construction projects, mainly carpentry and restoration work in different residential areas. Over summer break (2nd -12th grade), I worked on farms, in warehouses, and in residential landscaping. After graduating high school, I found employment in construction and as a mechanic. I started college in the Lonestar system while working as a mechanic at a bowling center, but later took on additional work as a security officer while also installing lawn sprinklers. At one point I was employed by five different companies, having a 125 hour work week. Due to my father's health issues, I was forced to withdraw from my classes to maintain my household ( my father, step mother, and younger brother). I took the same two classes again while working a full schedule for a petroleum company in Houston. Unfortunately the conditions of my employment were changed and I was forced to teach myself both of my classes, which I passed. I worked as a testing technician building blow-out-preventers (BOPs), valves and hydraulic-ram cable tensioners for the US Navy. I worked briefly as a laborer in a sheet metal production plant, which was closer to my home, before enlisting in the USMC. Unfortunately, two months into training, I injured my back and was moved to a rehabilitation platoon. While I was there, I assisted with paperwork and recruit education of about 90 future marines whom I could not be more proud of. I, however, was medically discharged and sent back to Texas. I worked briefly as a mechanic at another bowling center, as a correctional officer for TDCJ, and as a carpenter specializing in trim work and cabinetry. My degenerative condition prevents me from continuing positions requiring heavy lifting. I worked for about a year as a delivery driver until a colleague referred me to Swyft Filings, my current employer. Currently I hold the title of Business Document Specialist II. I utilize Microsoft, Google, Zoom and Adobe software daily to communicate and coordinate with a team of specialists. My responsibilities include: Customer orders and alterationsStandard business filings (organization, amendment, dissolution) across the US and it's territories501(c)(3) Document preparation and digital submissionOutbound calls to City, County, State, and Federal departmentsEmails/ Digital Communication with customersTraining/Cross-Training of new and alternatively experienced employeesRecently, I returned to college, where I am currently working towards an applied degree and certification as a surgical technologist.
