Dr. Gavin Barton is a skilled coach, facilitator, and consultant with over 25 years of experience helping individuals, teams and groups develop and retain expertise. He is Managing Director of the Leonard-Barton Group LLC, a company specializing in talent development and the transfer of expertise. In that capacity, he has coached individuals in leadership and performance and directed programs of knowledge identification and transfer for major corporations. Dr. Barton has applied his research on reflective, experiential learning to coaching high performing individuals and to programs of knowledge sharing between in-house experts and their successors. Dr. Barton is a certified executive coach and holds a Masters in Counseling and a Doctorate in Counseling and Performance Psychology from Boston University. He works with executives, athletes, and teams to achieve the highest performance as well as helping managers provide an environment that supports and sustains learning and development.Dr. Barton’s interest in developing individual potential and enhancing performance derives from his extensive experience as a professional coach and instructor for 20 years. He has been involved in amateur and professional athletics for 30 years, initially as a competitive athlete and then as an award-winning coach, guiding championship-winning athletes and teams. His co-authored article “Make Yourself an Expert” was published in the Harvard Business Review, April, 2013. Dr. Barton is also co-author of Critical Knowledge Transfer: Tools for Managing Your Company’s Deep Smarts published by Harvard Business Publishing in 2014. Since obtaining his doctorate at Boston University, Dr. Barton has been an adjunct professor at Lasell College where he taught psychology and sport psychology. He has also been a frequent guest lecturer at Tufts University. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association of Applied Sport Psychology.
