Company : ARAD Computing ccI am currently working as the application Architect in developing an Enterprise Architecture for the Department of land affairs. The first phase of this project is t develop the Enterprise Architecture with the view to implementing an e-Cadastral solution that will be rolled out to the whole of South Africa.I also provide analysis, development and consulting services to Columbus Stainless and Spar head office on an ad hoc basis.

Company : ARAD Computing ccI worked as the Solution Architect on a document management project for Eskom. The project implemented Hyperwave ECM as a solution across the Enterprise. My roles and responsibilities on this project were to provide workshops, analysis and design forums, management of development resources and overall system architecture design and implementation.The scope of the project included 4 Divisions, with a total of 25 distinct distributed sites connecting to the core servers.

Company : ARAD Computing ccI provided the upfront analysis and design of the Data Migration for Debswana Diamond Company. This was to design and develop the Data integrator jobs for migrating all data from their existing commercial systems on an IBM iSeries to SAP.

Company : ARAD Computing ccI provided consulting work for 2 companies, these being SPAR Head Office in Pinetown and GijimaAST in Johannesburg.My responsibilities at SPAR were to provide Technical Support, Consulting services and R&D work for them on their current applications. They make use of the RAD tool CA Plex (formerly Allfusion Plex). This is a product that I have built up extensive knowledge on.My Responsibilities at GijimaAST are to assist in the transition of the work I did for De Beers. Once the allocation of resources had been done from De Beers to GijimaAST, it was realised that they had no one that could fulfil what I had been doing in De Beers. I was assigned a resource to train over 6 months.

Department : Build TeamI form part of the build environment which is responsible for Application development and acquisition; within this team I manage the integration areas of De Beers with regards to connectivity between SAP and any Legacy or third party applications.My primary roles are to ensure the ongoing integration of applications and data between disparate applications and 3rd party vendors across the De Beers Group. My current focus area is mainly within the SAP environment. Additional strategic software projects are managed when required, the latest been the implementation of the De Beers Regular Air Service online reservation system.I left De Beers due to the outsourcing of their IT operations. The outsourcing company was looking to take over junior staff and did not have a position for someone of my diverse skills and competencies.

I was responsible for the technical integration and data migration for the full SAP ERP implementation for South Africa, spanning all the Mining operations across the finance, supply chain, plant maintenance and HR business units.For data migration I was responsible for the management of the team developing the data extracts as well as the interaction with the functional consultants and business stakeholders, this involved their time management and delivery of the data on time for the relevant integration test cycles as well as the final "go live" data loads. Data was successfully migrated from numerous systems including AS400 in house developed applications (across 5 sites), Accpac (2 sites), Syspro (1 site) and AMIS (1 site).

I was responsible for providing the integration of the SAP HR, Payroll and Financial modules to existing legacy and third party systems across all the South African and Botswana mines.This was successfully done, ensuring business continuity between SAP and other systems. Within the same period I was responsible for co-ordinating the selection, evaluation and appointment of a partner in providing initial SAP support and assisting in the establishment of the SAP Competency Centre. A middleware strategy was also formulated to give direction in the future integration of SAP and 3rd party applications.

The role performed as a software engineer was on the full software development cycle from Analysis and design, development and implementation. My main tasks were to identify the technological changes available and to ensure they were incorporated within the applications developed and delivered by DIS. My major achievements at DIS in this period were the successful selection and implementation of a RAD (Rapid Application Development) tool. This saw the successful delivery of a number of custom developed applications delivered to the group in a short time period with low maintenance comebacks. It is to date still one of the top application development tools available. I presented a paper at an international conference in Paris showing the productivity gain realised by using the product, as well as the ease of use of skilling up new developers in the tool. This formed the basis for a number of companies in South Africa adopting the same tool.In 2003 I consulted on a pilot project at the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) in London. This was to facilitate learning of their staff as well as to jump start their project.

This was primarily a workflow and imaging company that supplied bespoke business solutions. The main tools used were from Filenet Corporation in the USA. In the 9 months I worked for this company I worked on major projects for the SABC, Standard Bank Home loans and Anchor Life Insurance Company. During this period while working on a solution for Standard Bank I was sent to the USA to assist in Beta testing on a new Java version of the Filenet workflow products. This was pivotal in us retaining a major portion of work within the home loan arena.I left Astrolabe to rejoin De Beers as I was offered a Software Engineer position focused on evaluating RAD tools which was my major area of interest.

This was primarily a workflow and imaging company that supplied bespoke business solutions. I started with De Beers as a graduate and progressed from a Graduate trainee to a Software Developer to a Systems Analyst to a Software Engineer over this period. I was involved in the initial development standards for the redevelopment of the De Beers Group systems from Main Frame to AS400. This was my introduction to Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools and where I get my passion on them from. Within this period I delivered a paper at the SYNON International User conference in London.I was key in the investigation of new technologies within DIS and the proposing of them to the wider group. I was involved in the first NT implementations within the group, and moved from development on the AS400 to the setup and support of the first NT and PC network environment within DIS.
