Tasks change day by day! However, typically I am on site supervising and taking part in Engineering design of our solutions provided for ground improvement strategies.

Being in the Bid Department, my tasks involved thoroughly understanding the client's requirements, Request for information (RFIs) and the changes in each addendum. Understanding the above allowed for me to review document submissions, such as Construction Management Plan, Traffic and Transit Management Plan, and the Integration Management Plan. I would provide comments related to the technical information and fix grammatical errors. I also was tasked to develop early risk registers which involved understanding the objective and constraints of the project overall.

A Facilitator at Altitude is required to have knowledge in high ropes rock climbing. Facilitators must plan each day and the activities the guests will do within a time limit. The facilitators also lead the program and activities for the guests. Not only am I expanding and developing personal skills necessary in every day life, I get to enjoy the job while doing so. The guests that come to McMaster's outdoor recreation programs come out as a unified group and will share the time they had at McMaster. Being a part of the team's memory and being able to guide them is what I think is so relatable to engineering. The main purpose behind engineering is to make society or a community a better place by innovating or inventing new ideas. Overall, being a facilitator not only helps develop my personal skills, but it is relatable to the career I want to pursue.

Conduct field inspections of several Storm Water Facilities noting any asset deficiencies for future remediation. I would inspect retention and detention ponds, as well as Low Impact Development (LID) facilities primarily. I also worked with Access Database to create digital reports of my investigations.

My role in this position as a co-op student is to aid the project managers under the water/wastewater and source water departments screen through upcoming infrastructure development projects that will be taking place throughout the city limits.

The Field Technician position requires going on-site to perform either compaction, concrete or asphalt tests. It is our responsibility to ensure that we perform our work competently and provide the client with knowledgeable advice.

In 2018, I won the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council Scholarship to pay for a summer co-op of undergraduate research. I had the privilege to work under Dr. Li and with several colleagues to verify predictive methods to forecast wastewater inflow and water quality parameters such as COD, BOD, nitrogen, and others. Throughout the research term, I helped develop a few programs to produce the forecasts. I also sorted through several CSV files for the python programs to run, and present any developments to Dr. Li, and the Engineering firm we worked with, Hydromantis. Hence, I was able to further develop my Excel and Python skills. Handling, and sorting through the files further developed my organizational skills, and the biweekly meetings supplemented my time management skills. After the work term finished, I co-authored a research paper which is currently in the process of being published in the Journal of Engineering Education and was the editor of one other paper. The paper, as well as the 2018 Water Week poster helped enhance my communication both written and verbal.

I was a busser at the Waterdown Keg Steakhouse Bar and Grill. I have further developed communication and leadership skills through the Keg as a busser. In order to keep customers satisfied, the job required everyone to work as a unit. Each individual at times had to be a leader to direct the team to achieve success. I have also learned how to manage time better by working at the Keg and tackling engineering at once. Overall, the Keg further developed my teamwork skills, communication and how to better manage time more efficiently.
