My responsibilities:• Auditing of financial statements: understanding both the internal systems and the industry environment of each client, in order to identify the specific risks these may present to the audit. A key part of my role is scrutinising the various elements of the financial statements produced, to ensure they reflect a true and fair view of the business’ activity. • Accounts preparation: analysing the trial balances of a company and using specialised software to produce a full set of accounts. In addition, for a number of larger clients I am involved in the preparation of consolidated accounts, ensuring all subsidiaries are accurately reflected, eliminating all inter-company transactions.• Advising on current systems: Reviewing the current systems used and making value-adding suggestions for improvements to the processes currently in place.• Continuous engagement with clients: communication with a wide range of corporate clients and external parties, via conference calls, email, and face-to-face meetings at client locations across the UK.• Mentoring of junior team members: as the senior auditor I am responsible for ensuring that all work produced is at the highest possible standard, reviewing the work of all junior team members and making myself available to answer all queries and concerns they have.Skills developed:• Strong written and verbal communication skills, producing formal documents for senior audiences.• Teamwork is vital in my role, and I have shown I am able to lead a small team effectively, ensuring that morale is kept high, instructions to the junior members are clear and likewise that those more senior than me are kept up to date and informed of progress regularly.• Ability to work consistently and effectively in a stressful environment under tight time constraints, ensuring that all client-facing time is utilised effectively.• The importance of self-review and attention to detail.
