The role includes the overall leadership and business accountability of the biggest gold mining complex in the world, responsible for ~3,700 Nevada Gold Mines and ~3,000 Contractor employees within a flat management reporting structure. Financial responsibility for an annual operating budget of approximately $1.8bn and sustaining/growth capital budget of $300-400m. Management of the re-start of the Kainantu Gold Mine in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The Kainantu Gold Mine had previously been owned by Barrick Gold and had been in care and maintenance for a period of eight years. The operation is a highly geologically complex narrow vein underground mine in a very challenging setting and location. The role required management of the rehabilitation of the underground mine, the processing plant, mine surface infrastructure, recruitment and training of all staff and setting up all systems and processes for the re-start of operations and build-up of production with a small expat management team and employment of mostly local community members. To date the rehabilitation and re-start and ramp up of operations work had progressed safely and to schedule and budget.

Following the restructure of the the previous Platinum Australia Limited assets under a newly formed mining company called African Thunder Platinum Limited was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of the new company SA operations responsible for the management and re-start of operations following the successful recapitalization process.
