Gavin is a real estate lawyer with wide experience of acting for residential developers. He has over 30 years experience and a detailed understanding of development work. He particularly enjoys strategic land work and he regularly advises residential developers, including national housebuilders, in connection with site acquisitions, contracts conditional on planning, options to purchase, promotion agreements, overage agreements, joint venture and collaboration agreements. He also acts for landowners in connection with such agreements.His recent project experience includes advising:- a national housebuilder in connection with a put and call option to take an assignment of an option to purchase agreement relating to a substantial development site in Warwickshire and an assignment of an option for easement relating to the access to the site for a consideration in excess of £7 million; - a national housebuilder in connection with the acquisition of development land in Bedfordshire conditional upon the grant of a satisfactory reserved matters approval for a consideration in excess of £7 million and imposing infrastructure obligations on the seller; - a residential developer in connection with a hybrid land promotion/option agreement relating to a substantial development site in Leicestershire; - acting for landowners in connection with the sale of development land in Northamptonshire to a national housebuilder for a consideration in excess of £6 million (plus overage) where the seller required rights of access and services to be reserved in favour of retained land. Gavin joined Shoosmiths from City firm Birkbeck Montagu (now Penningtons) in 1996 as a partner, leaving 2000. He rejoined Shoosmiths in May 2011.Gavin is a published author. His book “Property Development: A Practical Guide” was published by the Law Society in April 2010 and a second edition was published in 2014.
