In this role I assisted in the day-to-day running of Pre-Sessional & In-Sessional English Language programmes for prospective and current EU & International students, as well as ensuring that appropriate resources were available for commercial partners to the University. My role involved ensuring that students were attending their scheduled lectures and seminars in line with Tier 4 visa guidance, ensuring that students welfare needs were being met (and signposting as appropriate), as well as administration for enrolment and exam periods (booking rooms, timetabling of classes, etc).

During my time at Mitchells and Butlers I have assisted in providing a table booking service for a number of restaurants across the country. My role involves collecting all relevant information from each guest on the telephone before booking an appropriate table for them, or liaising with members of staff on site to ensure that guests requirements can be accommodated should this be required. Empathy and solid negotiating skills are paramount in this role; guests may be disappointed should there be no space at their first choice of restaurant, so being able to swiftly suggest a suitable alternative is critical in ensuring the guest has a positive experience. Further to this, I currently work as part of the Guest Care team, monitoring social media, telephones and email for a range of Mitchells & Butlers’ brands and effectively responding to and resolving guest enquiries, comments & complaints.

In my role as Student Connect Officer, I assisted in running an admissions project designed to make contact with all full-time UK/EU applicants to the university. I managed a team of sixty students who contact applicants via telephones or a LiveChat service to ensure that they had all of the information they needed to make an informed decision on their university choice. Further to this I provided statistical reports, generated from eBanner, SITS and Business Objects systems, to departmental leaders which detailed the effect of the project on recruitment, attendance at faculty taster events & overall applicant to student conversion rates.

My time at St George’s, while short, has been incredibly rewarding. My role has involved contact with applicants through various forms such as social media, email, and telephone. Additionally, I assisted in the promotion of a new MSc in Genomic Medicine, including assisting in the production of a short promotional video. I have also had the opportunity to develop my IT skills, including the use of office software, SITS, eBanner and Joomla web content editing.

My time working for the University of Greenwich has strengthened my organisational and interpersonal skills. As the first point of contact for the university through telephones, emails, despatch of post or through the LiveChat service, a friendly, approachable demeanour is crucial to my role. Ensuring that applicants have all the relevant information regarding application to university is imperative, so my role often involves liaising with other members of staff within recruitment and admissions, academic staff, and UCAS in order to ensure that no applicant struggles unnecessarily with the application process.

In this voluntary role, I was responsible for the maintenance of the client database, and ensuring that client files were kept up-to-date. Within this role I provided a line of communication between clients and counsellors if they were not on site, ensuring that appointments are upheld, or rearranged as necessary. As the first point of call for the company, I was approachable, friendly and empathic.

Within this role, my primary aim was to promote the company to the public as an ethical way of saving and borrowing. I ensured accounts were well maintained regularly, using software such as Acumen and Office Excel. During my time at the Credit Union, I ensured the smooth running and promotion of a new method of saving, designed primarily for employees of Solihull Council.
