Gavin Michael Collins (b. 1990) is a freelance fashion stylist, art director and creative producer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Their personal work focuses on gender and identity and the intersection with fashion.The start of their career in the film industry was quite unintentional after taking a sabbatical from working in the public health sector. They began assisting several friends who were already stylists in the fashion and film industries. Their background knowledge of human anatomy added to their insight of how clothes connect to the body; and the psychology of creating a rapport with people gave them an advantage with producers, clients, and the creative team as a whole. Working well under pressure and being organised were both added benefits of a career path that has extended across two seemingly disparate industries.They have since worked over many different facets of fashion, film and music. Their work includes look-books and campaigns for brands contemporary African brands such as Orange Culture, Tokyo James and Chulaap. Their work has been featured in online publications Dazed & Confused, Hunger Magazine, ID Italia & Document Journal as well as in print for Nataal, Oddiseo and Thiiird Magazines.Gavin is also the co-founder of Diskotekah, a conceptual brand that since 2014 has established itself as an alternative nightlife community and platform for creative expression in the Mother City. These fully immersive conceptual events have become ubiquitous to Cape Town nightlife scene and have resulted in collaborations with music festivals like Littlegig and Bazique.Gavin's love of music merges seamlessly with a life long relationship with dance which is best expressed in their styling and costume design for music videos and live performances for artists like Denai Moore, Honeymoan, Bye Beneco & Guy Buttery.
