Lifestyle Intervention Officer
CurrentMy role as a Lifestyle Intervention Officer (LIO) is to work in the local community to promote health & well being. I look to offer support in weight management, nutrition and exercise. I look at barriers affecting people or groups from making these positive behaviour changes and find solutions to help them over come their barriers. These barriers can range from confidence, lack of knowledge, finances, injury, illness or family. Some groups I have set up or work with are:-- Exercise Referral - working on the exercise referral programme helps people who have an injury or illness where exercise could help them. We have classes in the fitness suites, sports halls and swimming pools. We have classes that specialise in specific conditions also including Neuromuscular, COPD, Cancer and Type 2 Diabetes.- Dementia sessions - I work very closely with those living with or supporting those with dementia putting on sessions to help mentally, socially and physically.Body Composition Analysis - Using the set of Tanita Scales we own we offer body composition analysis to the public and to workplaces as a tool to encourage positive behaviour changes. The Tanita Scales give a full body reading including fat/muscles mass, hydration levels, visceral fat and a metabolic age. This allows the individuals to see what exactly is going on in their body and what changes may be best suited to them.Group Exercise Classes - if there is a group or a workplace that have a specific exercise class they would like made accessible to them on a day and time that suits them we look to make this possible by finding the location and instructor.Man V Fat - I helped set up this group as part of a nationwide project aimed at overweight men who are wanting help around weight loss. It involves a weekly weigh in followed by 30 minutes of football. The group was set up to promote weight management and well being whilst also being a great social group.
