I have over thirty years of experience in engineering design and the management of major capital expansion projects in the sugar, pulp and paper, petro-chemical and bio-ethanol industries, in Southern Africa and Europe. After completing a trade at ESKOM and studies in Mechanical Engineering I commenced services with the Huletts Sugar Technical Management Department as a mechanical designer. In 1987 I joined Mondi Limited and spent the next twenty one years in various design and project related positions implementing major capital projects in their kraft, pulp and paper mills within South Africa, the United Kingdom, Poland and Slovakia. I later he joined Fluor SA as project manager and was responsible for the upgrades and expansions at the Engen Refinery in Durban. In 2008, I was appointed as senior project manager and later the Chief Operations Officer for the Dombe Ethanol and Cogeneration Project, a bio-ethanol from sugar cane development in central Mozambique. This was a greenfield project which required the development of the cane farm (20,000 Ha) and ethanol factory. The value at the time was USD 845 million. The project was shelved after USD 75 million had been committed due to market conditions and funding.In 2012 I was appointed as senior project manager for Grindrod Terminals with the responsibility of carrying out an FEL3 study for the implementation of a 20 million ton per annum upgrade of their existing coal terminal in Maputo habour. The value of the study was USD 32 million and included the conditional appointment of all the major engineering, equipment supply and construction contracts. In July 2014 I was appointed as project director for my present position.
