Working as part of Anglian Water's @one Alliance capital investment programme, I am responsible for all aspects of the projects assigned to me in order to deliver them to time, cost and quality targets. This involves co-ordination of an immediate team of engineers, quanitity surveyors, estimators, programme planners, the site-based workforce and sub-contractors, and administrators and document controllers. In addition to this, I interact daily with project stakeholders including various representatives from different parts of the client's organisation, CDM co-ordinators, the environmental and ecology team, and HSQE internal and external auditors. I also have line management responsibilities for a number of staff, including performance appraisals.

As part of Black & Veatch's team working on Anglian Water's @one Alliance capital delivery framework, my role involved direct responsibility for all technical delivery aspects of the projects under my control, which included all engineering deliverables during root cause analysis, option development and selection, and detailed design stages. This involved managing a multi-disciplined team of process, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, leading technical meetings both with my immediate design team and with key project stakeholders, and liaising with various other team-members such as estimators, planners, quantity surveyors, CDM co-ordinators, site managers and commissioning staff. I also oversaw enabling activities such as ecology and archaeology surveys, provided required information for planning applications, monitored project progress against programme and agreed cost ceilings and attended on-site and off-site performance and acceptance tests.

Reporting directly to the Operations Director, I had overall responsibility for all aspects of projects under my control. I co-ordinated multi-disciplined teams for design, installation and commissioning, as well as handling all procurement, financial performance, health & safety, quality and environmental issues. I managed all contact with clients and suppliers, often alone, including representing the company in technical and commercial meetings. This also included approving equipment at on-site and off-site acceptance tests, which sometimes meant overseas trips for performance trials, and gaining formal client acceptance for key items. I provided monthly updates on progress and financial performance to senior management, and also mentored a project engineer. In addition to the regular requirements of the job role, I also represented my department on the company's environmental management committee and was instrumental in developing our ISO 14001 accredited environmental system, for which I later became fully responsible including all internal and external audits. I also acted as the IT administrator for the company.

Assisting a project manager with all aspects of managing his projects, I learned about client and supplier liaison, managing project finances, procurement, preparing risk assessments and method statements, overseeing design teams, site installations and commissioning. This experience led to me managing my own small project of approximately £500,000 under close supervision to demonstrate my skills, following which I was then promoted to project manager.
