We use technology to empower and enrich their lives while making the companies they work for more efficient and profitable.This is done by tracking, managing and reporting on the daily activities of our users. By using GPS and NFC technology, we know where they are 100% of the time. We save them time by allowing them to capture all reporting data on the app. We use this to create automated reports that go out to their customers on a daily basis.I have been CEO since day one and grown the company from zero to servicing over thirty security guard companies. Dark Indigo is a boutique consulting firm focused on providing outsourced development of high tech solutions. Our clients are mostly tech startups and silicon valley based tech companies.I undertook a number of large projects with various technologies but our tech stack was typically:• Jira for agile development• Git for source control• Ruby on Rails for rapid web development• Java for heavy lifting back ends• C if there’s a need for real speed• Java for smartphone development • Ubuntu Linux for servers. We run our own OpenStack cloud with Ubuntu for both host and client systems.• AWS for cloud deployment• Mac’s for developersSome of the interesting work we did was in partnership with Cisco and Raytheon where we built actor based systems to look at the power of using AI to detect anomalies in the network, server and application levels.We also developed the initial base system that evolved into Kugadi.

I spent some time working on a number of tech contracts that interested me. These included:• A grid based system to do high speed, highly scalable analytics on financial data for S&P. Development was mostly in Java.• Infrastructure for a broker. Mostly Java.• Actor based analytics. Developed in Java and an in house language, Star.

DataSynapse provided a grid computing system used by a large percentage of the largest financial companies in the world.I was responsible for all services personnel in EMEA (London, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Frankfurt offices) comprising a pre-sales technical team, post-sales consultants and a training division.I held overall responsibility for the technical account management of some of DataSynapse's largest corporate clients. These mostly consisted of financial services companies with grid implementations with tens of thousands of nodes.I also acted as a liaison between European customers and DataSynapse's US based engineering division.I supported major sales by the EMEA sales force.I was also responsible for scheduling all services resources across EMEA to multiple projects across multiple geographies and managing some of the key projects.Additionally I was a mentor to many of the technical resources in the region.

BSG is a South African based consulting firm providing business analysis and development services. They decided to start a London based office and I was one of the management group who moved there to form the office.I took on a dual role where I was responsible for forming a technical architecture group and a business development group. As part of my business development role, I was responsible for all revenue for the office.In addition, I was a business consultant and technical architect on a number of projects. We also did some offshore development in South Africa which I acted as a liaison for.

Dimension Data is one of South Africa’s largest IT provider companies. They focus mainly on hardware for networks and servers but I was part of their small software division.I was architect and team leader for the Java and open source software practices of the application solutions business unit.Accordingly, I set technology standards for the group as well as consulting on standards and technologies to clients.I also advanced the development culture by implementing test driven development, formalised code reviews and educated the group on the use of patterns.I designed and managed developed and deployed a number of projects which included:• a maintenance scheduling system for a mobile phone operator• a vehicle route management system for an oil company• a technology modernisation project for an oil company• a system to track disease in wildlife across the Kruger Park and other game parks for a non-governmental organisation

ICT Innovations was a wholly owned division of the University of Cape Town. Its mission was to commercialise technology innovation from academic staff and give students commercial experience working on real world projects.I created a modified in-house development life cycle to take the best elements of the rational unified process and the Microsoft development framework to make it work in this unique environment.Most academic staff and students had little or no experience with the rigors of developing for a commercial environment so I was a mentor to them.I was responsible for making sure all projects were completed with high quality.

UBS is one of the largest financial institutions in the world. I was part of the investment bank division.I had global responsibility for the full software life cycle for the implementation of messaging middleware, enterprise integration software and affiliated technologies.I managed a number of dedicated technical specialist groups and coordinated with the larger IT organisation to ensure standard implementations of relevant technology both off the shelf and built in house.I was chair of the messaging middleware technical operating committee and sat on a number of other technical operating committees.I was a vendor relationship manager for middleware vendors.I was also given the role of managing the group globally rolling out the Rational Clearcase configuration management tool to all 6000 developers in the organization.
