I am a solicitor practising in the field of charity law, advising Scottish charities and both UK and non-UK cross-border charities with operations in Scotland. Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Charity Law. Served on the OSCR Working Group on Public Trusts and the Scottish Government Working Group on the Implementation of the Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. I am a member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Charity Law Reform Committee. Additionally, I am a member of the Standing Tax Committee and of the Executive Committee of the Charity Law Association (UK)I am the author of the Scottish chapter of Tolley's Charities Manual and the Scottish chapter of the Global Guide to Charity Law. I am also the author of the chapter on investments and co-author of the chapter on cross-border issues of A Practical Guide to Charity Law in Scotland (W Green). I currently serve as General Editor of Scottish Private Client Law Review (also published by W Green), having been a member of the editorial board for over 10 years. I am Scottish legal adviser to the Which? publications What to do When Someone Dies and The Which? Guide to Wills and Probate.I am a trustee of a number of charities: having recently served as vice-chair of Live Music Now!, I am currently a trustee of the Edinburgh International Festival Endowment Fund and a trustee of Old S Paul’s Episcopal Church. I also serve on the board of The Dean Cemetery Trust Ltd and of the LawScot Foundation. I am chair of the J S Innes Charitable Trust and recently served as one of Her Majesty’s Commissioners to Queen Victoria School, Dunblane.
