Hello, I'm Gavin. I design and build websites through my agency Magnet. I obsess daily over layout, typography and balance, take great pleasure in neatly organizing specifications and keeping things organized, and watching new projects launch successfully. I enjoy managing complexity, using a blend of creativity and technical expertise, and collaborating with passionate and talented people.I started back in 2004 in London as a consultant to the online travel industry, working with AOL, Expedia, Ebookers and a range of other well known travel companies, living and working in London, Prague and Dubai.Following that experience, I founded Magnet as a full-service digital agency, working across a range of industries on some exciting projects with Ikea, UCLA, HGTV, McGraw Hill Education and many smaller startups and non-profits. Over the years I hired designers and developers from around the world, building Magnet into a small, remote-first team with a culture of excellence.I'm forever learning and remain as passionate about the modern web as the day I started. I am a father to two handsome boys and married to the wonderful and talented Sarah Littlefield.

Consulting Design DirectorEssque Hotels Apr 2010 - Jul 2011Zanzibar, Nungwi, TzThroughout my career i have travelled extensively to meet and work with clients around the world. It was and still is one of my primary motivations.In 2010 i was fortunate to be invited to relocate to Dubai in the UAE for a year-long stint as a web design and development consultant to a new luxury hotel chain owned by the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates. Then called Tiara and later renamed to Essque, the concept was a bold vision of luxury combined with highly personalized services for visitors to the city.During that time i was tasked with helping to design a comprehensive web platform and to integrate a design system created by Grey Global for the web. In addition i was asked to help build out a small web team which involved interviewing and hiring specialists in frontend and backend software engineering. -
Creative DirectorOnline Travel Group Limited Feb 1999 - Apr 2004I joined OTG as the first official employee when they started up and stayed with them through an exciting few first years as they rapidly grew into a significant entity in the B2B travel and tourism industry for the web. Together we built white-label platforms for different travel aggregation technologies, including but not limited to flight bookings, car rental, ferry crossing tickets, rail tickets and more. Technologies that would be integrated into high-scale booking platforms such as Expedia and Lastminute.com. As creative director my role was to wear many hats while building out a team of designers and engineers over the years. Later i would focus on UI design, project management and partner integrations.Of all the activities under my watch i am most proud of the travel ecommerce platform and affiliate tracking systems i designed and built from scratch using ASP, JS and some other core technologies.In addition to planning and building things i also held many sales, strategy and integration meetings around London with exciting companies such as AOL, Lastminute.com, Expedia, Ebookers, Egg Bank and more.This formative role is where i also learned deeply about strategic planning, taking things to scale, the importance of documentation and process, as well as team leadership and communication. I still owe a deep thanks to Tom Dunkley and Paul Quigley for giving me room to grow straight out of college into an important and challenging position with their startup.
